Windows 7 Network File Transfer Starts Fast Then Slows To Crawl
Hi All, I am at my wits end, I have a PC running Windows 7 and a MacBook Pro, they are connected via a gigabit router (wired). Obviously both machines have Gigabit NICs. I am trying to transfer files from the PC to the Mac, when I start the transfer, it runs along at around 50-60megabytes/s, but randomly (could be after 1 minute or 10 seconds) the speed will slow down to a crawl, about 400kilobytes/s and will stay like this. I will only get my full speed back after rebooting windows. I have tried connecting both machines via crossover, got the same result. So the router is not the issue. The router has a usb port for connecting an ext drive, so I tested the transfer speeds to this from both machines, it works at full speed from the Mac, but is dog slow from the PC, again it will only run full speed once I reboot the PC. So it seems to me as though it is something to do with Windows (or possible the NIC) I have tried changing various settings I have found in different articles on the net, but to no avail. But most of these tips were for Vista. Can anyone give me any advice on this? The NIC is a Realtek RTL8168B/8111B, and the Mobo is an ASUS with Intel G41 chipset. I had pretty much loved the Windows 7 until this little problem.

Well, I woke up this morning, to attempt to figure this out again. And it was suddenly working perfect and has been all day. The only thing I did was update the driver from the Realtek website.
