Windows 7 Not Genuine
I have an Acer laptop which was originally delivered in 2009, with Windows Vista installed. The sale also included an option to upgrade to Windows 7 Home premium for a small cost. I purchased the upgrade CD and installed WIndows 7 and everything seemed to be working fine. Recently, I am experiencing reports (pop-up windows) that my copy of Windows 7 is not genuine - Strange, since I have a legal Upgrade disk which was used to install the upgrade. At the foot of the 'System Page' (Right click on 'Computer' and select Properties) there is a link to 'Change Product Key' - which I have been advised should help to cure the problem. However, the link is dead - nothing happens when I click on it! (I am On-Line when I click the link !) The other link - 'Activate Windows Now' is also dead......... I have also tried the 'SLUI.exe 4' action but it does not work either - ie nothing happens.... I would really appreciate any advice as to how to fix this annoying problem Thanks MGADiag File below : Diagnostic Report (1.9.0027.0): ----------------------------------------- Windows Validation Data--> Validation Code: 0x8004FE22 Cached Online Validation Code: N/A, hr = 0xc004f012 Windows Product Key: *****-*****-VKC4X-CW8QH-76KYB Windows Product Key Hash: qCZnvei+MTXNwyPZZwcbcXO2lSc= Windows Product ID: 00359-OEM-8882513-31409 Windows Product ID Type: 3 Windows License Type: OEM System Builder Windows OS version: 6.1.7600.2.00010300.0.0.003 ID: {D3C15CA8-E0CF-48CE-93C0-F358D51528FD}(3) Is Admin: Yes TestCab: 0x0 LegitcheckControl ActiveX: N/A, hr = 0x0 Signed By: N/A, hr = 0x80070005 Product Name: Windows 7 Home Premium Architecture: 0x00000000 Build lab: 7600.win7_gdr.110622-1503 TTS Error: Validation Diagnostic: Resolution Status: N/A Vista WgaER Data--> ThreatID(s): N/A, hr = 0x80070002 Version: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 Windows XP Notifications Data--> Cached Result: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 File Exists: No Version: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 WgaTray.exe Signed By: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 WgaLogon.dll Signed By: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 OGA Notifications Data--> Cached Result: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 Version: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 OGAExec.exe Signed By: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 OGAAddin.dll Signed By: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 OGA Data--> Office Status: 114 Blocked VLK 2 Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 - 114 Blocked VLK 2 OGA Version: N/A, 0x80070002 Signed By: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 Office Diagnostics: B4D0AA8B-604-645_B4D0AA8B-604-645_025D1FF3-364-80041010_025D1FF3-229-80041010_025D1FF3-230-1_025D1FF3-517-80040154_025D1FF3-237-80040154_025D1FF3-238-2_025D1FF3-244-80070002_025D1FF3-258-3 Browser Data--> Proxy settings: N/A User Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; I would call the Windows Activation phone line and walk through it with them http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950929 The link contains the contact information. Make sure you have your upgrade DVD in hand with the key that Acer sent you.:P Advice offered, If you need more help it is advised to seek the council and advice of paid professionals. The answer is always 42, or reboot.

Thank you for your reply Jason. As I stated inmy original post, both links on the System Page are totally inoperative - this is the basic problem! So, following the link you quoted, does not help, since it basically just advises me to click on the 'Activate Windows Now' link -but it doesn't work !! Las D.Rashid : I don't understand your reply ..............

Your log report says that a file has been tampered (17th line from bottom): Tampered File: %systemroot%\system32\sppcomapi.dll|sppcomapi.dll.mui You also mention that neither slui.exe nor Change Product Key links work. Ensure that the Software Licensing service is Started. They may not be working because this service was stopped. Please revert back here if this does not resolve your issue. Hope it helps! Hello willum08, - press the start-orb, and type: "cmd" - type "slmgr -ato" [ENTER] P.S. Do not type the quotes around the commands. I hope this information helped you. With kind regards, Laurenz

Thank you all for your suggestions and observations - they are sincerely appreciated :) Las D. Rashid : I had my doubts that changing the system clock would have any effect, but I tried it anyway. Result - No change....... Thanks anyway : -------------------------- SC Tom : Thanks for that link to the Phone numbers - Very useful. If all else fails, I'll call the UK support. -------------------------- Server Baba : I did notice that report about a 'Tampered File' - I certainly have NOT 'tampered 'with it and no one else has access to my Laptop. If it is possible that this file is causing the problem, is there any way of correcting this? I think that the problem may have started after a batch of MS updates, dated around the 14th of August 2011. I had a look on the 'Services.msc' page but there is no mention of a 'Sofware Licensing' entry. There is an entry called 'Software Protection' which is 'Started' and is designated as an 'Automatic (Delayed Start)' Startup Type. --------------------------- Laurenz : I ran the command which you kindly provided and the result was an Error Window which stated the following : Windows Script Host Activating Windows(R) 7, HomePremium edition 9f83d90f-a151-4665-ae69-30b3f63ec659... Error : 0xC004C003 The activation server determined the specified product key is blocked. I don't know why the Key is being blocked - The CD arrived from a reputable source and was in a sealed package...... Looks like I will need to call the Windows Activation service .....................

You will need to look at my post links on calling the activation center, they can reissue a new key if they deem your key is valid, you must have your Acer dvd and key info in hand.:P Advice offered, If you need more help it is advised to seek the council and advice of paid professionals. Hi Jason, As I stated in reply to your first post - using the link : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950929 cannot help, since I cannot access the 'Product Activation Wizard' from the Windows 7 System page. Going to that page states : Quote "Phone numbers for Microsoft Product Activation Centers are not listed in this article because there are many regional Product Activation Centers worldwide and the correct number for you is determined based on several factors. You can find the appropriate phone number when you run the Product Activation Wizard that belongs to your product." So I just ended up going round in circles :) I have now called the MS Windows Activation Service and after explaining my situation, they have supplied me with a new Key and everything is now FIXED !!! Thank you SC Tom :) for the phone numbers. However, I am still a bit concerned about the reported 'Tampered File' when I run the MGADiag utility. Does anyone have any suggestions how I could fix this?? Many thanks again to all who responded to my plea..............

Have you ran sfc /scannow from a command window? That will check your system files for you. Glad the numbers were a help to you :-)

Hi Tom, Thanks for your suggestion - I did try running SFC /scannow a couple of days ago, but it did not report any errors. This morning, I ran sfc /VERIFYFILE=C:\Windows\system32\sppcomapi.dll and it reported : "Windows Resource Protection found integrity violations. Details are included in the CBS.Log file." I had a look at the CBS Log file, however, it's around 12 Mb in size and it would take several days to work my way through it !! and I've got better things to do :) There don't seem to be any problems now, but I do have a little concern about this corrupted file. Having done a bit of 'digging' and 'Googling' on the internet, the file in question would appear to be associated with Authentication/Validation of Windows 7 and it seems that it is vulnerable to viruses and many other routes of attack, causing it to become corrupted. (I hasten to add that I always have good Anti-Virus software installed and it is always kept up to date!) I tried downloading a 'cure' utility called 'Advanced PC Tweaker', which is supposed to fix all '.dll' errors, but MGADiag still reports the file as corrupted, after running the utility. Short of doing a re-install - which I dread! I think I'll just leave it alone for the time being. I do have an Image of my C: drive on an external hard drive, but it was created about three months ago and much water has flowed under the bridge since then !! :) If further problems arise, I may have to 'bite the bullet'. Thanks again for your time - it is truly appreciated.......

Unfortunately, the problem reared its 'Ugly Head' again, so I contacted Microsoft Support and they helped me cure the problem and issued a replacement Product Key. Everything is OK now.......
