Windows 7 Pro trouble after adding to Windows 2000/2003 Domain
I have 2 new Windows 7 Pro systems which I am having trouble with joining to a Windows 2000/2003 domain. Currently we have an all Windows XP Pro network with Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 domain controllers. When I go through the process of adding the new Windows 7 Pro systems to the Windows domain it all appears normal. It prompts for a domain admin username and password to join the domain. I provide it and it joins successfully and prompts to reboot. I reboot and login as a local admin fine. I then go to users and groups and open up the administrators group and add my domain account to be a local admin. My account name populates in the Members box but after the name I get a bunch of # (S-1-5-21-.......) and I also see another user listed as little person symbol with a ? on it and a whole bunch of #s representing the account (S-1-5-21-....). This appears to be what should be the Domain Admins group from the DOMAIN (after comparing to my original XP machine). Looks like the Windows 7 machine is not communication properly with my domain controller. I then logout and log back in with my domain account. My script file runs to map my network drives and I can access all of the drives and it appears to be as my domain account. When I attempt to do an ipconfig/registerdns I get a message saying that I need elevated privaleges to do so which leads me to believe that it's not recognizing me as a local admin on the box. I also get an entry in the event log stating "Windows detected your registry file is still in use by other applications or services. The file will be unloaded now....." Event ID: 1530 Source: User Profile Service. This sort of leads me to believe that there is trouble with my domain profile loading on the system. We have a Websense web filtering server which lets me browse sites based on policies associated to my domain account. Sometimes when I try to browse certain sites I know I can browse normally, I get a blocked page. This leads me to believe that the logged in credentials being passed to the Websense server are not those of my domain account and further points to a domain profile problem. Are there any know issues with Windows 7 joining a Windows 2000 domain? My Windows 7 build is 7600.Thanks for your help.Rob Skinner
