Windows 7 Professional - Logging off takes very long
Good morning, thank you for taking the time to read my question. I hope I posted this issue in the correct location, maybe networking would be more apropriate. On to the problem though... I have recently purchased 8 new Windows 7 Professional PCs from DELL for our office. I am experiencing a very odd problem however with them. Probably 50% of the time when I log off of Windows to change users or reboot the computer kinda hangs for about 5 minutes before showing the "Windows is shutting down" message on the screen. I spent time messing with MSconfig to determine if a process is affecting the logoff problem and I have confirmed that windows process "Net Logon" is causing the problem. I started by turning off all non windows processes and clearing all startup programs. That did not solve the problem so I started disabling windows processes systematically until I narrowed it down specifically to "Net logon". Also it might be important to mention this problem was occuring right out of the box before installing Windows Updates and service pack 1. As for more generic information I am mostly using local profiles so this shouldn't be due to oversized roaming profiles that take a long time to send to the server. Generic PC specs (I can provide more specific if needed): Dell Vostro 460 mini tower, 500GB SATA hard drive, AMD radeon HD 6450 1GB DDR3, Sandy Bridge i5-2400 processor, 4GB dual channel DDR3 SDRAM 1333Mhz. I tried searching around the internet hoping that this was a problem somebody else experienced but found nothing. Any suggestions or ideas would be deeply apreciated. I can't exactly disable that process since it is necessary for our domain useage.

Hi, According the issue, I wonder whether your computer is a domain based computer? Please check GP Check the following GP: Administrative Templates\System\Logon\Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon. If this group policy is enable, it will cause this issue. Please refer: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/2008.01.gpperf.aspx If the issue persists, I recommend that you may enable logging of Netlogon service via the following hotfix: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/109626 After that, try to repro the issue. Collect the log file in the path of c:\windows\debug\netlogon.txt, upload the file via SkyDrive, and post a link here. http://explore.live.com/windows-live-skydrive?wa=wsignin1.0 Hope that helps Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
