Windows 7 RC changed networking from 1st Release Beta?
I had the first release of Windows 7 and had no issues with networking to older computers in my home network. When I installed the RC release, now suddenly it will not allow me to connect with my file server. I have an older box with Windows 2000 (my file server) that worked great, but the new RC release immediately prompts for a user name and password, and nothing works. The first release prompted for a user name and password as well which I just entered the admin credentials for the 2000 box and it logged right in. Does anyone know what changed, and how to get it to work?

Hi, If you create a user with same Windows 2000 username/password on Windows 7, does it work? Thanks.

Have you tried entering the user name and password in the Credential Manager? For the user name be sure to use the format computer_name\user_name where computer_name = the name of the 2000 file server and user_name = an account on that server. For exampleInternet or Network Address: Windows2000ServerUser Name: Windows2000Server\AdminPassword: Th1sIs a Reasonably str0ng password!Kerry Brown MS-MVP - Windows Desktop Experience

elimina y vuelve a crear el usuario y contraseña, dando permisos de confianza al equipo. Saludo deleted and re-create the user and password, giving confidence to the team permissions. Greeting

I tried that, it still didn't work. I even created a user on the 2000 box, and duplicated that same user on windows 7.....still the same issue. Thanks for your response though.

It still prompts me immediately for the login, it does show the server_name/user_name that I put into the credential manager, but when I enter the password it still doesn't accept it.

It sounds like the Windows 2000 file server may not be up to date. Does it have SP4 and the rollup installed?http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=DC27B8C6-2A5A-4399-AD3D-4A97A25F41D9&displaylang=enhttp://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=b54730cf-8850-4531-b52b-bf28b324c662&displaylang=enAfter you have these installed go to Windows Update and install any updates that may be needed.Kerry Brown MS-MVP - Windows Desktop Experience

It's Windows 2000 pro v 5.00.215 with service pack 4 and all updates. I'm not sure if I mentioned this before but it connects to my Windows7 box just fine and can access files, just doesn't work the other way.

Have you turned off password protected sharing on your Windows 7 machine?

you have to delete the accounts and recreate it gave me the same problem, and if you're on the same computer with two operating systems more reasonable.

So I tried deleting accounts, turning off password protected sharing, changing workgroup names, doing all the updates, even tried eliminating all passwords on everything......still the same problem exists. My XP machine connects just fine, the Windows7 no go. If this is supposed to be better than Vista....I feel sorry for Microsoft.
