Windows 7 RTM System image backup
Hi,
I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64 edition which needs to be backed up before trying to install SP1.
These are the steps followed to create System image
Select Backup and Restore from Maintenance
clicked "Create System Image"
Backup location selected as Network.
Browsed to my fileserver and selected a folder with full rea/write access.
Successfully completed backup of Drive C.
Drive C actual usage 54GB. Backup size 40gb VHD.
To confirm backup attached the vhd file created in network location to windows 7 pc.
The vhd shows all the folder present on hdd but misses windows and users folder frmom backup.
Now this is bit confusing how will system image restore will get back all my data if users and windows folder is missed from image.
With Regards,
Nikhil

Hi Nikhil,
Please understand a system image is an exact copy of a drive. By default, a system image includes the drives required for Windows to run. It also includes Windows
and your system settings, programs, and files. It is a clone, an exact copy
Generally, it is quite a bit smaller and cannot be viewed. I suspect you viewed the backup files. You can use backup feature to add the windows and user folder. Since
the system image won't let you choose which to back up, we recommend that you back up your files regularly using Windows Backup so that you can restore individual files and folders as needed.
