I am a new Technet member and the first thing I did when I joined was to download the Windows 7 with SP1 ISO. I wanted to update my gaming machine with SP1 and since then I have had nothing but trouble. Before I tried moving to SP1 my system was totally stable. After doing a clean install from the new ISO it's been extremely problematic and I would like to try and understand why. For starters, here is what is in my system: Intel Core i7 965 Extreme Edition - Zalman CNPS10X Flex - Corsair Dominator GT 3x2GBs 1600 7-7-7-20 - Asus Rampage III Extreme - 2x EVGA GeForce GTX 480 Superclocked+ - Auzentech X-Fi Forte 7.1 + OPA637SM - Audioengine 5 - Intel CT Desktop Adapter - 3x Western Digital Raptor X's in RAID 0 - 3x Crucial RealSSD C300 64GBs in RAID 0 - Seagate ST3500630NS - LG GGC-H20L - Enermax Galaxy EVO 1250w - Cooler Master Cosmos S - Acer GD235HZ - Logitech G19, G9x & G13 - SteelSeries QcK Mass - Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (as pasted from my signature from another forum.) I downloaded all the latest drivers for all hardware. BIOS's and firmwares are the newest for applicable devices. I installed Windows 7 on the RAID array consisting of 3 Raptor X's. The 3x SSDs is where I install games. The first problem was that the Windows interface would, seemingly totally at random, move in super slow motion. The mouse cursor would respond only intermittently. It took minutes to close a windows or get the start menu to pop up. I finally gained access to the restart option and when I would click that or other times shut down the UI would freeze entirely except that I could still move the cursor and I would have no choice but to hold the power button down for 7 seconds to shut it down. This happened 4 times. I saw no event viewer logs that seemed to pertain to this except that the machine had been shut down unexpectedly. The only other message I would see was this: "Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected." That seems to appear in the events upon every reboot. After the forth UI slowdown/freeze I decided to write off the the whole thing as a bad Windows install. I formatted the drives and tried again. I then had a new problem. I got as far as installing the latest nVidia drivers (266.58 WHQL) and enabled SLi. I then rebooted. When I tried to open the nVidia control panel after that the screen would go black and reboot, partially. I would start to reboot and seem to fail and sit there. I cycled power and started up again to have the same thing happen. I tried running Furmark (just to see what would happen) and I experienced the same behavior. The following Bugcheck error was reported after both reboots: 0x00000116. It reported that a bluescreen error had occurred (the first BSOD I have ever seen under 7) but all I saw was a black, empty screen. I am now formatting and going back to non-SP1 Windows 7. Something is very wrong either with the SP1 and my video cards or nVidias drivers or maybe even something else entirely. Has anyone else had any related issues? Thanks. Excuse the length of my post. This experiment has ruined my whole weekend.

I am running the RAM at 1t but it is rated at 1t and always worked before under non-SP1 Windows 7. I ran memtest and no errors were found. However the crashing isn't the main problem. I might have fixed the crashing. (i reseated the video card and that seems solved) The problem now is the UI slow down. Randomly the UI starts moving in super slow motion. The mouse jumps across the screen with large pauses between jumps. If I can get the mouse over a window I click close and nothing happens. Also, watching my G13, I see a constant 12-13% CPU usage while the slow down is going on. I have tried to open up Task Manager while this is going on but I cannot bring it up. The only way to get the PC back to normal is to reset and wait until it does this again. Edit: I had task manager open and ran the computer for a while closing and opening windows randomly. When the machine went into slow motion, in this case, the task manager window froze. The mouse was still movable at that time. I could hover over the start menu and it would change to show that the cursor was hovering over it. I could move the mouse just fine but the task manager window was frozen. If I brought the focus back to the Task Manager window it would be brought back into focus but it's contents would stay frozen. In other cases it could be any other random (seemingly) window that would freeze. No specific window seems to be effected. If I leave it for a while the window will update but it takes a few minutes. The process taking up the constant stream of CPU time the "System" process. As I stated before my Logitech G13s resource monitor is unaffected and updates every few seconds. It shows the "System" process taking up the usual 12-13% CPU time. After some time passes this slow down spreads to the mouse. I can no longer fluidly move the mouse and it takes several seconds for the cursor to adjust to new mouse movements. Oddly if I can bring up the Start Menu I can use the arrow keys and move the selector around at normal speed. Opening and closing windows works for the most part but some things refuse to load. Example if I close Task Manager and try to reopen it it will happen but it takes a very long time. Other, like control panel will open right away. Eventually the machine will freeze altogether. I seems that the cursor is affected. The "System" process becomes eternally busy. The machine grows progressively slower until it fails to respond at all. Keyboard input will work smoothly until the system freezes entirely. Windows freeze or take a long time to load or update their contents. I unplugged the mouse and slowdown persists, to rule out the mouse. I've been a PC hobbiest for roughly 16 years and this beats the heck outta me. I tested my hard drives for errors and my memory. I made sure the memory, data cables & power cables where snug and I reseated the video cards. I have formatted 4 times and did clean installs of the integrated ISO downloaded from Technet to rule out bad installs. All drives used are the latest the manufacturer currently has to offer. BIOSes and firmwares are all the latest.

I have the same WMI error (Event ID 10: 0x80041003) appearing on every reboot. I also did a fresh install using "Windows 7 Ultimate with SP1 x64" ISO which I downloaded from the MSDN. I used Windows7-USB-DVD-Tool for creating USB installation stick. I am not currently having any other issues, but I would certainly like to know what to do with this error. Do you still get that error after your second install? Currently I haven't installed anything else than Microsoft Security Essentials and the following drivers: Intel RST driver - 10.1.0.1008 ("F6" during Windows installation), Intel Chipset Software 9.2.0.1021, NVIDIA Graphics Driver 266.58, Marvell 91xx SATA Controller driver - 1.0.0.1036, Marvell 88E8056 Gigabit Ethernet driver - 11.30.1.3, Renesas USB 3.0 Host Controller Driver - 2.0.4.0, ATK0110 ACPI Utility - 1043.6.0.0 My system is: Intel i7 930, Asus P6X58D-E (latest BIOS 0502), Corsair HX3X12G1600C9, Gigabyte GV-N470SO-13I, OCZ Vertex2 60GB, Samsung F3 1TB (HD103SJ) x 4, Corsair AX850 The same error is a known problem with Vista SP1 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950375) but the recommended solution AFAIK doesn't seem to actually cure it but only hides it. I don't know if it even works with Windows 7. Other suggested solution by someone with the same problem is to delete the WMI repository and rebuild it. (http://arstechnica.com/civis/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=1136983) I would like to know if this is a safe thing to do and doesn't cause any other problems later on? According to WMI toubleshooting guide (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa394603(v=vs.85).aspx) it might do some damage: Under any circumstances, do not delete the WMI repository as a first action because deleting the repository can cause damage to the system or to installed applications.

Well, I went back to non-SP1 and the behavior continued! SP1 is not the problem after all. I *think* I might know what's been going on... All the drivers I used on the SP1 install where exactly the same (and still newest available) with one exception. The Intel Chipset software that I used previously was 9.1.1.1025 and the one I used on the SP1 install is the latest, 9.2.0.1021. It was the only piece of software that changed. I also used it when I went back to non-SP1. Using 9.2.0.1021 and both non-SP1 and SP1 Windows 7 resulted in the UI slow down. Today on the non-SP1 I rolled backed all the Intel system drivers to the Microsoft default drivers and ran the PC for the entire day and it was stable for 8 hours. (more or less) I suppose they could be at fault. I found that the 9.1.1.1025's only ever updated (on my x58 board) the Intel(R) ICH10 Family SMBus Controller - 3A30 component. The 9.2.0.1021 updated many other things, most of which related to the PCI-E ports and other Intel system components. I am going to now try installing SP1 without the Intel INF installer and see what happens, as I have some evidence that the 9.2.0.1021 might be the cause of all this. I never knew the Intel INF utility to cause problems in the past. We will see, I guess...Wish me luck. I am really sick of this and I want the problems to go away in time for Rift on Thursday. :-P Has anyone else tried the Intel INFs 9.2.0.1021 and had any issues with them?

Ever since I wiped and reinstalled Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 without the latest Intel INF drivers the system has been stable. *knock on wood* That doesn't mean it's fixed yet. It could come back. I am afraid it will so I am not ready to declare victory yet. But so far, so good! I had wiped the system before I could attempt your suggestion. If the problem reoccurs I will certainly do as you instructed. For now I am hoping all is well! It could be those Intel INFs are bad, for me at least.

Yes. It certainly seems my issue has been solved. I have not heard of anyone else having issues with these drivers but I certainly did! The PC has been 100% stable since omitting them from the previous clean install. Thank you to all the people who replied. I appreciate your attention.

I found that playing with the Intel Chipsetddriver made no difference - what really made it work was updating the nVidia driver to the latest version. The blue screen fault in my case was always caused by an nVidia DLL file. Downloading the latest version as of today made my PC work perfectly. I troubleshot this by nature of the fact that the machine worked fine if I booted into VGA mode. You'd think that Microsoft would stripsleam a compatible nVidia driver into SP1 really, given that Win7 seems to support just about any hardware out of the box! Hope your problems get sorted - try the nVidia driver if you have this kit and the Intel fix doesn't work for you. Cheers Chris (MSCE, MCP+i, MCP)

I have this very same error on an asus P6X58D-E after afresh clean install, I know running the script above stops the errors from re-appearing. Since I am getting these errors on a clean fresh Install there must be a problem with Windows 7 or a Hardware fault because no other drivers or software have to be added for the error to appear.
