Windows 7 Ult (64bit) will not reconnect to 2003 data server
We run at 2003 AD domain and forest Function level. All
domain users are using either Windows XP Pro SP3 (32bit) or Windows 7 Pro (32 bit), but the majority are still XP. The
domain users have access and permission to a mapped data drive on a 2003 server(\\fileserver01\data (F:\)). All
Laptop users have managed to maintain Offline files without incident.
We recently purchased 2x Windows 7 Ultimate (64bit) Laptops to replace some old XP laptops for 2 users who often need to work away.
Both machines have run into the same problem:
Both users need access to their respective folders on the F:\ . Which
was done by right clicking ‘Always available offline’ – the sync centre kicks in so far so good.
When the users boot from a cold boot all works ok and no problems, the laptops picks up a IP, connects to exchange, access to all the data on the F:\ and the users can access the internet. If
the user then unplugs the network cable/or losses network connection for whatever reason, they can access the Client Side Cache of their F:\.
But when the network connection is re-established they get an IP, connected to exchange and access the internet, but the F:\ remains the Client side cache only and the users can only access the offline files. N.B there is no ‘work online’
button available through explorer at this point. If
the user then tries to reboots/log off it hangs at the Logging off… and only a hard shutdown will resolve it. Within
the manage offline files (sync Centre) the ‘On slow connections work offline’ is ticked and greyed out and the timer is set to 5 min (I’ve tried at 50 min and 1 min neither seem to make a difference to this issue) The schedule is set to start
sync whilst the machine is ‘awake’ and all other options are not selected – we did this as we had a problem with offline files not been updated as required.
If the user client clicks ‘Work offline’ and then disconnects the network connection, when the network connection is re-established the ‘Work Online’ is available but when clicked it hangs the machines and the F:\ returns
a 'not responding'. Again rebooting or logging off
hangs at the blue Logging off..
In both situations no other servers has a problem and are assessable either through \\server or >network>server in explorer but the F:\ still hangs and only the CSC is available.
Appendix.
At first we thought it was a hardware problem and contacted the Supplier, ran full diagnostics and told it must be a software problem so windows 7 Ultimate has been re-installed but no change to the above.
No unusual errors in the event logs
Both machines have had ZoneAlarm Internet security, both replaced with Trend Office scan then finally Kaspersky, no change in the above.
Windows Firewall is switched Off.
We have tried net config server /autodisconnect:-1 on the file server and again no change
We have tried to replicate this problem on the window 7 Pro (32bit) laptops without success.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I would like to suggest you visiting the following KBs:
The icon of an offline file that you changed in offline mode always indicates that synchronization is successful even
when the synchronization fails on a client computer that is running Windows 7
Access to a redirected folder or a home drive disconnects regularly on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008
R2 and Windows 7
You cannot access a DFS share through a mapped network drive on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server
2008 R2
Hope it helps.
Best Regards

I have been experiencing these problems at work and after days of troubleshooting I just needed to tick a single box to get it working. I wrote about it on my blog

Thom, your solution did not work. Other people say turning off IPv6 fixes it, but that doesn't work either.
Has anyone found a solution to this problem that comes and goes intermittently?-WDS- Disk failures only happen to those who fail to backup.
