Windows 7 Ultimate Sharing Issues
Hello, I just built a file server and installed Windows 7 Ultimate on it. I've gotten everything set up and configured and for the most part everything is working smoothly. However we have a mix of Windows XP and Windows 7 boxes in the domain and the XP boxes are having issues. When I first boot the new fileserver up everything is fine and viewable. Then after its been up for a period of time the XP aren't able to browse the computer or the shares. I get the "fileserver not accesible please contact your...." My Windows 7 computer don't have an issue though. Any ideas? Thanks, Craig

Hi , First, make sure you have turned off password protected sharing option. Launch "Network and Sharing Center" on Windows 7 computer and click "Advanced sharing settings" in the left panel. In the current profile, please select "Turn off password protected sharing" option and click "Save changes" button. Also, please take the following suggestions to troubleshoot: 1. What about to access the share folder by \\XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX<IP Address>and see how it works? 2. Test the issue in Clean Boot. 3. This issue occurs can also due to the UAC. Please disable UAC and reboot the Win7 to see if the issue persists. If it still not works, please try to set the following group policy settings: 1. Computer Configuration -> Windows Settings -> Security Settings -> Local Policies -> Security Options: Network Security: Do not store LAN Manager hash value on next password change - SET TO DISABLE Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level - SET TO SEND LM & NTLM - USE NTLM v2 IF NEGOTIATED 2. Refresh group policy by restarting the computer or typing gpupdate /force in the run dialog box. 3. Reset the password on the user account. The password needs to be reset so that it stores the older LAN Manager hash value.
