Windows 7 Ultimate and IBM Netserver (IFS) fails to execute programs located on the network
I discussed again with our netserver team expert,
and her comments included the developers notes:
As you know, the developer said:
"I've found some very interesting behavior of Windows 7 when
interacting with an SMB server that does not support NT status
codes (such as 5.4 NetServer). I've run the MS tool,
ProcessMonitor, on the client with a simple MFC app that I
built. I notice that when interacting with a server that
supports NT status codes, the Windows 7 client performs the
normal DLL search (same dir as the EXE, then system path) when
running an EXE.
When interacting with a server that only supports DOS error
codes, Windows 7 only searches for DLLs in the same dir as the
EXE. When it doesn't find them, the app fails to run. This
looks like a case of a Windows bug where the client is not
behaving correctly. The customer will need to take this part
of the PMR up with MS support. I'm attaching a couple of
Process Monitor logs of the problem for the customer to
provide to MS. I expect that MS will also want the customer to
get data of their app failing as well."
Windows 7 is behaving differently with a server that only
supports DOS error codes (I guess the customer could talk to
someone in the Linux SUSE world to find out exactly what it is
that SUSE does - we wouldn't be able to say what they use).
Also, OS V5R4 has been GA'd since when.... early 2006?
Somewhere in there, anyway. Windows 7 GA'd in Oct 2009, I
believe, about 2 1/2 years later and it does not behave right
with an iSeries OS that had been GAd for 2 1/2 years. V5R4
supports only DOS status codes. When DOS status codes are not
used (by this iSeries OS that's been around for years before
Windows 7), then Windows 7 looks for dlls in a directory where
there not supposed to be.
the developer even provided process dumps for the customer to
take to MS, I believe.
The customer needs to contact MS. I'm sure that once that's in
the works, if MS needs to talk with IBM, then Chuck will be
more then happy to talk with them. Our developers work with MS
developers when they need to. I still don't think there will
be any changes or any reason for changes on our end. And if
there was any issue on our end (which I don't think there is)
then any APAR would probably be closed as fixed in next
release.

Let me see here they have a OS which does not have support windows and the solution is to contact microsoft??Quote...."When interacting with a server that only supports DOS error codes, Windows 7 only searches for DLLs in the same dir as the EXE. When it doesn't find them, the app fails to run."unquote..Now I am a very low end "windows software programmer" but if I remember right, to be windows compliantare not the .dll files to be in the same folder as the .exe. I wrote a ringtone ripping app WAY BACK and doing researchI am sure I saw that on the microsoft site.I know I had to make some changes to some database driven apps because of windows 7, but the changes where all for better security nothing that was a show stopper.did you try to dumb down 7??1. Launch regedit from Start Search box.2. Find the following branch. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa
3. Create a DWORD key under Lsa and set:
Name: LmCompatibilityLevel Value: 1
4. Restart.
click the start button and type secpol.msc in the search function.
Browse to "Local Policies" -> "Security Options". Now look for the entry "Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level" and open it. Click on the dropdown menu and select "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated". Apply the settings.

I've already tried these fixes.
All of the required DLLs are in the networked folder.
The programs execute fine from an XP machine, on the same network, using the same user id as with the Windows 7 pc.

I found a hotfix for a problem that looks like it is a close match to the one you are having. Check out http://support.microsoft.com/kb/978869 to see if it fixes your problem.

Chuck, you are the most exalted guru.
Thank You. I've been fighting this problem since Sept.
