Okay peeps need help with a laptop issue. Every time I try to 'check for updates' manually the computer doesnt stop checking... It just keeps on saying 'checking for updates', no freeze or hang it just doesnt stop. I was getting an error; 80080005 which is supposed to imply a hijacking of the update service, but none of the antiviruses are detecting anything and the error message has stop after I cleaned it's temp files and cleaned registry. I've scanned with Norton Power Eraser, AVG Ativirus, Spy Bot Search & Destroy, Microsoft Saftey Tool and nothing has been found :( However, I was able to recieve updates (5) in the bottom right of teh task bar thingy - notification area, and the shut down button installed the updates for me, but the problem is still there :( No chance of a system Restore or fresh install. Any help? I've tried reseting the update agent and components using MS Fix it and some manual stuff :P But Ziltch. Remove .NET Framework with Aaron Stebner's removal tool and reinstall .NET Framework If the above does not help, do the following: 1. Run sfc /scannnow and analyze log. 2. Run Windows Update Readines Tool 3. Uninstall AV and after testing update install the newest version (one AV) 4. Look into WindowsUpdate.log for failed and warning Rgds Milos

Hi, I suggest you try the following: 1. Boot into Clean Boot Mode and try updating again. 2. Run the Microsoft Fixit and see how it works. Fix the problem with Microsoft Windows Update that is not working 3. Try System Update Readiness tool by referring to What is the System Update Readiness Tool?. 4.
