The best way to proceed is to proceed by a retore operation to a previous restore point. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/700-system-restore.html Section: Through System Recovery Options at boot Once done, I recommand to you to download and install the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821/ Download and run the tool, it will say that it's "installing"...it's actually running the readiness scan at this time so you should let the installation run to completion. The KB article says it will appear to hang at 60% completion and I've observed this as well. Just be patient and let it finish. I think that this will be enough to solve your problem and avoid future windows updates issues. This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

You can try to install it without antivirus and firewall. If it does not work either, run In-place Upgrade to repair the system. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.
