Windows 7 built in ftp client problem
Connecting to a local ftp with the command prompt. It works sometimes, but sometimes the command just drops and gives a blinking cursor with no error and no connection. Other times it will connect, but if we try later it does the same immediately after the connection. There is a small percentage rate of connection, and operation to our local ftp. The ftp is being made to an AS/400 system and is set-up to receive ftp connections - this is not an issue with Windows xp, only in Windows 7. We have other xp machines that do not have this issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you running any router? Is there any third party firewall other than the firewall in win 7 itself? You might need to do a port forwarding. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This is on a company network, and all the firewalls have been checked, it is within the company so we bypass the firewall, and the Win 7 firewall is turned off. This appears to be ftp not dropping the connection, and not allowing a new connection until it has been ended, and even then appears as if the program still has an active connection, but we never receive an error or time out for the connection.

Hi, Have you run commend prompt with administrator privileges? Just right click cmd and run as administrator. Or you can disable UAC temporarily for a test. If it is caused by FTP connection limitation, you need to configure FTP server rather than Windows 7 clients.Niki Han TechNet Community Support

The command prompt is and has been run with administrator privileges, and UAC is not used per our group policy - so neither of these issues have addressed the problem. Which brings me to the question are the differences in windows 7 and windows XP operation so different that it would allow XP to access it consistently in contrast to Windows 7 allowing sporadic access? Thank You.
