Windows 7 can't start after change of proper grafic adapter
Windows 7 RC1 runs without any problems. Then, after a change of a nvidia 6200 series grafic adapter by another of the same typ windows won't start again. Automaticly Windows started the repair mode but didn't find any solution. There came some blue screens... After the 5th start of the repair mode Windows started again. How can it be that a change of a grafic adapter which has proper function lead to a falldown of the system so that there first where no possiblities to start windows again? Other user would have given up after the first or second falldown! Is this behaviar of Windows a bug or a feature? ;-)

Is it the exact same model graphics card that you replaced the old one with? Did you try booting into Safe Mode before performing the repair install to see if a different driver needed to be loaded?Windows (or, well just about any OS) can crash if it can't locate the proper device drivers required for the hardware you are using or if the wrong drivers are attempting to control your hardware.

I have changed from ATI to NVIDIA no problem. There might be another problem causing the OS to crash.Vote if answered or helpful, I am running for Office (joke)! IT/Developer, Windows/Linux/Mainframe Server: P4-2GHz, 1.5 GB RAM, Linux Server, need IDE/SATA disks for my chess site Workstation: Asus M2NBP-VM CSM, Athlon64 X2 4200+ 65W CPU, 2GB RAM, NVIDIA 8600GT, 320GB + 160G backup, Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

Hi,I have the same question as Rich. Are they the exact same model graphics?Generally, it is suggested to uninstall the old graphics card driver in Safe Mode, plug in the new card, restart and install the suitable driver for the new one. If installing the new card without removing the old driver first, it is most likely to encounter the start up issue.Even the similar model, with different device IDor vender ID, Windows need several startups to configure the driver to complete a start.

I have had a similiar show with an old desktop I have. I upgraded the graphics card (to a newer one) and windows would just keep on crashing. I tried the above mentioned ideas (go to safe mode uninstall the driver, reboot, install drivers), and that still didn't work. The only solution I have found that works would be put in the new driver and do a clean system restore (not the nicest solution, but best option to make sure of no future hassles).

I have both ATI and NVIDIA drivers on my machine, no problems. Mind you my cards are all PCIe so they should be OK.Vote if answered or helpful, I am running for Office (joke)!
