Windows 7 crashes after 20 min inactivity
I have installed Windows 7 Premium 32 bit on a Dell 9150 with BIOS version A07. It seems to work well, but when the computer is left unattended for 20 minutes, it crashes and starts rebooting. On reboot it does not find a valid harddrive. I have to power off the computer and start it again. I have created a power schedule that does not turn of the disks, and that does not put the computer in sleep mode. Any ideas of what this might be?

This may or may not work..... Try turning off Hibernation if it is on,,, then reboot and delete the hiberfile.sys http://support.microsoft.com/kb/920730 - Read everything at that link first. Then try sleep again without turning hibernation back on

Hi PetterQu, The BIOS version A07 was released on 1/16/2007. Since the system power is managed by BIOS, I highly recommend you contact Dell Support for a new BIOS update. Please Note: Microsoft provides third-party contact information to help you find technical support. This contact information may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this third-party contact information. According to your problem description, this issue can be stopped by disabling the Sleep mode. Do you see the blue screen when the system crashing? Can you confirm if the computer crashes only when the computer tries to enter into Sleep mode? You may confirm it by clicking Start and Sleep beside Shut down. You had better to run Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to check the compatibility first. If there is no compatibility issue, I suggest customize and use the High Performance power plan to check the issue. Configure the power plan ================= 1. Click Start and Control Panel. 2. Click System and Security, Power Options in Control Panel Home mode. 3. Click the arrow beside Show additional plans and select High performance. 4. Click Change when the computer sleeps on the right pane. 5. Select a time for Put the computer to sleep and click Save changes. If it does not work, I also suggest you test the issue in Clean Boot. This article also applies for Windows 7. If the issue persists, please send us the Event Log. Please upload them to SkyDrive and provide us the link. We may find out some important information from the Event Log. How to collect the Event Log ======================== 1. Click "Start", input "eventvwr" (without quotation marks) in the Search bar and press Enter. 2. Right click on "Application" on the left frame, choose "Save Log file As"; in the pop-up window, click to choose the Desktop icon on the left frame, input "app" in the "File name" blank, and then click Save. 3. Right click on "System", with the same method, save it as "sys". 4. Locate the two saved log files on the Desktop and send them to me. I hope the information I provided is helpful.
