Hi. We have problem with sharing in domain using Windows 7 clients. All users in domain are users or power users (set locally) and each time user is trying to share admin rights pops up! Users that are still on Windows XP Clients are all power users locally and they share without any problems. It would be fantastic if there is any way to allow all users on domain to use advanced share so that Windwos 7 Clients have same rights as Windows XP users. Tx.

Well problem is because I was prompted for an administrator. I tried to turn off UAC but then I got info "This folder cannot be shared", if it's not turned off then administrator prompt. I tried several folders on few disks. I would be grateful if there is any possible way to elevate just share (or advanced share) from administrator to user or power user. We cannot allow users to be local administrators. Tx.

Hi :) Yes, file sharing is enabled at exact location and option. Also I've tried all possible combinations, no luck, each and every time admin authorization pops up. Now, here is my config (i'm domain admin so... user rules don't apply on me). 1. Network discovery: Turn on network discovery 2. File and printer sharing: Turn on file and printer sharing 3. Public folder sharing: Turn off Public folder sharing (people logged on this....) 4. Media streaming: (didn't touch it) 5. File sharing connections: Use 128-bit encryption to help.... (recommended) My UAC is turned off because my admin rights and for testing purposes (installations etc. so I don't get prompted often.) I tried my config on clients (even disabled UAC as you recommended) but still users cannot share. Is there any config file or specification that I can send you for analysis? Also I forgot to mention, I tried to share on several clients not on just one, and the problem is on all of them. Tx.

Hi, I am sorry for previous response. Actually, it is said that “Only local Power Users or Administrators (or specially configured accounts) can create shares. Domain Users, as members of the local Users group only, cannot.” This is by design. Hi. Still no luck. So I will describe client a bit closer (sorry :)) Client computer is Windows 7 Professional, every domain user is set to be power user on his/her computer (this was from Windows XP time), we add domain user into local power user group when we're preparing computer for them (right click on my computer, manage, local users and groups, groups, power users, and we add domain user into it). We done this that way before when we used Windows Xp, it simplifies later installations etc. But we noticed that new Power User group under Windows 7 is not exactly the same as under Windows XP, this new Power User cannot install printers, share folders and install any kind of program (admin is must be). So, I found resolution for printer install through group policy (it was really frustrating when 10-20 daily calls were regarding printer adding), but share is sill a problem. We have over 300 users (clients) and most of them does not have admin privilege, but they have need to share some folders on they're comps. I'll gladly install client computer from start with setup that you recommend just to enable sharing, also people learned to share folders like under Windows XP and the closest way under Windows 7 is Advanced Share (which also needs Administrator rights :( ). Please help.
