Windows 7 going to Windows XP Printer
There was a similar question here, but the solution didn't work for my particular situation. Both my computer and the family computer connect to a router to the internet. The family computer has the printer attached to it, and is running Windows XP Pro. My computer was running XP pro and was networked with it so I could print. Now with 7, I can't figure out how to print.I've gone control panel -> System and Security -> System -> Change Settings -> then changed the workgroup name to MSHOME (my XP network). I just can't find a way to view the family computer, let alone print through it.

Firstly, can you get the IP address of your WinXP machine (use IPCONFIG in Command Prompt), and go to your Win7 machine, and do the following:1. Winkey+R2. Type in:\\{ip address of your WinXP machine}Example:\\192.168.2.100If it shows, then right click on the shared printer, and select Connect To. Now, try printing. Thanks, that solved the problem! Although I am not permanently connected to my home network (meaning I have to type \\FAMILYROOM every time I want to access the shared documents (which is hardly ever)) I am able to print whether I can view the family room computer on my network or not.Well this saves time from a flashdrive transfer.
