Windows 7 issue with network drives that has not been fixed in over 10 years
Hello Tech community, For as long as I can remember, Windows 7 and all other previous versions of windows has a problem with "reconnecting to network drives" over a wi-fi connection. You know, when the user has to click the the x-ed out drive letter to manually restore a previously mapped connection? --- Is there anything that can be done to fix this? (I'm not talking about .bat file workarounds or registry edits) --- I mean a real fix. Setting the computer to delay a few seconds after logon for network connection before trying to establish a connection to a UNC path. Isn't this something that can be resolved with a simple patch/windows update? Add a delay to the SMB/CIFS protocol?

Hi, As we know, we need establish the network connection before we can reconnect the mapped drives. Let’s try the following method to check if it could get rid of this problem: Open Local Group Policy editor, to turn off Fast Logon, use the following policy setting: Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Logon\ Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon Alex Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
