Windows 7 print spooler not working - please help
I've tried the suggestions included in http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprogeneral/thread/d89539db-7499-46a4-b6b2-1b614aab3b64/and another post. I've done the file check. All is well. Not true, and the problem persisted.I've re-installed the beta. 8 hours later still nothing. I've changed the print services windows uses. Nothing. I've uninstalled Kaspersky 2009 and installed their beta software. Still nothing works.I simply can not get the print spooler under windows 7 to run and therefore I can't print. I don't want to go back to Vista, but I need to print!!!Any other suggestions???

Chris - What version did you say you reinstalled? The Beta (Build 7000) or the RC (Build 7100)?What printer do you have that won't work? Which drivers did you try to install with it? One that came with Windows 7 or one from the manufacturer?

I have hte Beta build 7100. The printer is a lexmark 2300, and it turns out that the driver for that printer is actually the problem. I've even (now) tried installing the Vista driver, but still the print spooler for Windows 7 does not work. And getting rid of that darned driver is a bit trickier that it should be. Darn it. But now thanks to this forum and others, I know the problem. I wanted an excuse for a new printer, and darned if I don't have one now!

I had the same problem with my old Lexmark printer and Windows 7. After contacting their tech support, they informed me that they had no intention of making drivers for Windows 7 until it came out and suggested that I downgrade to Windows XP in order to get my printer to work properly.

RogueWing - Ah. Yes... Sounds familiar. Some OEMs can be quite cheeky like that. During the Vista Beta cycle, I tried contacting HP for drivers for a printer and the tech on the line swore up and down he never heard of Windows Vista, Longhorn or any beta - this is, mind you, with Vista being all over the place in the tech media. You'd have to be livingunder a rock on Mars not tohave at leastheard about it. The question is - do they have any working Vista drivers? If so, those might do the trick.
