Windows 7 printer spooler resets default printer
Hi, I work in a company with 250 employees. We stumbled across a very strange problem. When a co-worker logs in the default printer is set to a non physical printer. example, a PDF printer of MS XPS printer. When I make a physical printer as default I see the registry entry changing. When I restart de printer spooler ( or log out and in) the printer is changed to the non physical printer. (in our case cutepdf printer) When I delete the cutepdf printer it makes the XPS printer default. When I remove the XPS printer it goes to the fax.. The current "solution" is to reset the users profile but I am not happy when this "fix" must be applied on 250 users..

Hi, Please let me know if the computer is in domain. Make sure you have loaded the latest driver of the printer. I suggest adding network printer as a local one for testing. 1. Go to Devices and Printers 2. Click Add a printer 3. In the Add Printer Wizard, select Add a local printer. 4. On the Choose a printer port page, make sure that the Use an existing port option button and the recommended printer port are selected, and then click Next. 5. On the Install the printer driver page, select the printer manufacturer and model, and then click Next. Or you can disable or remove XPS printer. As far as I know, the computer will always default to the first printer they find. However, the local XPS printer are found before the network printers. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverprint/thread/00940851-ff55-4d1b-8127-64bf63fb9ed2/ Best Regards, Niki Please remember to click "Mark as Answer" on the post that helps you, and to click "Unmark as Answer" if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
