Windows 7 reporting wrong disk stats on mapped network drives
I have a drive mapped to my MobileMe iDisk... when I look at My Computer... under my mapped network drive for my iDisk it is reporting the size and free space of my local hard drive rather than the size and free space on my iDisk... if there's a problem getting that info for my iDisk, then I would expect it to show nothing, or "Unavailable", not grab the stats from another disk...

Hi, as the MobileMe iDiks is the software of Apple, I suggest you asking Apple for further help: http://www.apple.com/contact/ Thank you for your understanding. There is a link maybe helpful to you: Windows 7 Tip: Mount your MobileMe iDisk as a network drive Please Note: Since the website is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. How would Apple know the disk specs of my local hard drive... this is an MS issue... not Apple issue... when MS is displaying the disk stats of my mapped drive (that just happens to be mapped to my iDisk) it reports that stats of my local hard drive (stats being total disk size and free space) rather than the stats of the online storage device. I understand that you may not have that info available from the vendor (Apple in this case) but in that instance report NOTHING... don't just grab stats from an unrelated drive and show that... This problem occurs when I map to other shared drives that do not originate from a Windows domain... so definitely an MS problem...

This is not a Microsoft problem because Microsoft did not write the software and has no control on how it interacts with Microsoft products! This is an Apple problem because they write/publish the software being used and they are the ones that know how it interacts with different files systems! Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Apple writes a program that does not display information from Windows correctly and you think Microsoft should do something to fix the problem with Apple's software? What planet do you live on? What is on that planet polluting your mind? Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. I am getting the same issue with a mapped drive W: The reported disk space in Windows 7 is identical to C drive. The server is the DAV module of httpd running under Linux. Just to make clear, I am not running any third party software in windows other than "NET USE...", nor was bmturney if I understand his/her post correctly. I agree that it is quite possible the non-windows server may be responsible for not implementing a protocol properly (in my case Distributed Authoring and Versioning protocol) or whether it is a limitation of the protocol in the way it handles disk space and quotas. I would be interested if any one has used WebDAV to connect to a shared drive on a Windows server whether it is able to report the free space correctly, in which case it points to the implementation on the non-windows server? Thanks. net use w: https://www.domain.com/dav /user:user "password" /persistent:no

I just checked to see what happens on my home system of Windows 7 computers using Homegroup and the mapped drive displays exactly the same Used space, Free space, and Capacity as on the host computer locally. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. @Rick Dee: Thanks for checking. Yes, I think that normal SMB / CIFS network shares work okay. I think the issue is with WebDav shares, I tried setting up such a shared folder on a Windows 2003 Server system, running IIS. Interestingly, this time >Computer> does not show free space as text by the drive icon, (although it can be found by selecting the icon and reading the status bar at the bottom, where it is. again. reported as the same as C: drive.) I think I come to the conclusion that WebDav shares should not be mapped as drives, but instead as network folders. Indeed, I created the following shortcut: \\www.domain.com@SSL/dav and it worked fine without reporting any misleading value for free space this time.
