Windows 7 starts the system without using the password requirement
I have Windows 7 Home Premium. I had Windows 7 beta and before that I had Vista. When I start my PC in the morning, it logs into the PC and bypasses the password that I have setup. This password setup has been used for 2 years. I have always started my PC with a password requirement. I installed Windows 7 Home Premium (10/22/09) and everything worked well until now. The last two days, when I start my PC in the morning, it does not ask for a password. If I restart my PC, it will ask for a password. Why is this happening? Thanks for the time, Jim

Press WIN + R to get the RUN menu, type control userpasswords2. The user accounts windows will occur. There is an option "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer", check the box and click OK.

Are you sure the computer was shutdown overnight? If it was sleeping or hibernating instead, this could explain it.

Please find this key:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WinlogonThere is a value named AutoAdminLogon. Please check if it is 0. If not, change it to 0, save the change and shutdown the computer.Wait for sometime and start the computer as a cold boot. Check if it will still logon user automatically. If so, check if the value AutoAdminLogon is changed.

I also remember a trick from a while back: when your computer boots up, after it's starting to load Windows, keep the shift key pressed. Back then it stopped the auto logon feature. Another problem would be that you deleted your password?Windows Video tutorials...

I also remember a trick from a while back: when your computer boots up, after it's starting to load Windows, keep the shift key pressed. Back then it stopped the auto logon feature. Another problem would be that you deleted your password? Windows Video tutorials... If the password was deleted, it would not ask for a password upon reboot. My suggestion is to uncheck the password requirement in userpasswords2, reboot, and then re-enable. Also, what Shanon Shan said, and check the AutoAdminLogon key.Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and good with ketchup!
