Windows 7 stuck on Identifying networks
I have seen similar posts but not a satisfying answer.
We had the idea to enable Network Connectivity Status Indicator in Group policy. So we entered a Corporate DNS Probe Host Name
After a reboot the machines got an IP and they are able to enter internet. However they are stuck saying "Identifying"
Disabling the network and enabling the network got it temporarely fixed.
Ok we solved this by removing the policy setting. But this might bring us into issues in the future.

Hi,
As I know, Network Connectivity Status Indicator (NCSI) is designed to be responsive to network connections, it examines the network connectivity through several tests.
One test failed, NCSI may report an error and the internet may not be connected.
For example, sometimes NCSI traffic isn’t send via IE but via WinHTTP component and use proxy specially. A proxy server that requires user authentication won’t
allow NCSI access Internet. Basically, we can configure WinHTTP proxy settings to hep NCSI:
netsh winhttp set proxy command
Meanwhile, you could use a Group Policy setting to prevent NCSI from communication across the Internet.
1)
Click Start, type: gpms.msc, then press Enter, select an appropriate Group Policy object.
2)
Expand
Computer Configuration, expand
Administrative Templates, expand
System, expand
Internet Communication Management, and then click
Internet Communication settings.
3)
In the details pane, double-click
Turn off Windows Network Connectivity Status Indicator active tests, and then click
Enabled.
Then connect the network again to see if the issue persists.
