Windows 7 updates fail if a FAT32 drive attached
I have several NAS drives on my home network. Some of them are formatted FAT32. When Windows Update runs, it often leaves behind temporary folders on one of these NAS drives.
2 questions:
1. Why does Windows Update installer unpack/extract to an NAS drive? No environment variables have been set to other than "C:" drive.
2. If the installer happens to "pick" a FAT32 drive when extracting, the install fails. Why?

Have you analyzed WindowsUpdate and ReportingEvents logs?

Hi,
First, I would like to explain that Windows Update shouldnt use these NAS drives. The temporarily folder should be stored in C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution when updating the system.
In order to verify this issue, please let us know the error message and send the WindowsUpdate log located in C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log.
Also, you can try the fix it tool to test the issue.
How do I reset Windows Update components?
Hope this helps.
