Windows 7 will hang sometimes
Hi sir, I bought MSI AE2220 AIO system. It bundled Windows 7 Home Premium OS. But it will hang sometimes during watch movie, browse internet or play Windows games, even the system is idle. I have checked the System Event Log, could not find the error log. Tried to udpate BIOS and drivers, install all Windows Update, check disk and scan virus, but the problem still exist. So sent the system back to MSI for checking, but they could not duplicate this problem, even ran Burnin test over 48hrs. So MSI swap new system to me. However, the new system still has same problem. I tried to install Windows XP, there is no problem around two weeks. How can I check what is problem? When the system hang, there is no BSOD or error message in Event log. I have no idea to find the root cause. Please help me, thank you. Here is MSI AE2220 product specification for you reference: http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=654&prod_no=1933

Hi, Generally, computer hangs can be caused by several factors: incompatible device driver, corrupt system files or software conflicts. To resolve this problem, I would like to suggest: 1. Update the device drivers to the latest version, especially the graphic driver and BIOS. 2. Perform a Clean Boot and see if the issue occurs. 3. Repair the whole system files by using the following two methods: 1) Run a command: SFC /SCANNOW to automatically repair the system files. 2) Perform an In-place upgrade. In-place Upgrade is a special upgrade process to repair the system. In-place Upgrade will not affect settings like photos, movies, documents, etc. that are saved on the computer. Moreover, In-place upgrade doesn’t require activation again. a) Perform a clean boot in the current operating system. b) Insert the Windows 7 Installation Disc to your DVD-ROM drive. If AutoPlay pops up, click “Run setup.exe” directly. c) Click “Install now” on the “Install Windows” screen. d) In the “Get important updates for installation” screen, it is recommended to select the first option to download latest updates for installation, if Internet access is available. e) Check the box “I accept the license terms” to agree with the installation license and click “Next”. f) In the “Which type of installation do you want?” screen, click “Upgrade” to perform the In-Place upgrade. g) Then, follow the wizard to finish the In-place Upgrade process. Thanks for your information. Tried to run Windows Memory Diagnostic around 24hrs, there is no problem. Ran SFC /SCANNOW, there is no error. I have updated the BIOS and Drivers to latest, but the problem still exists. I do not have Windows 7 Installation Disc to try. This AIO only bundles Windows 7 OEM version in HDD. I found the problem might easier to happen when open some homepages (ie: yahoo, msn) with IE8 then "wait" 1hr or more.

How about opening the website using other browsers? To solid troubleshoot the cause, you could use a utility ShellExView to monitor: 1) Download ShellExView v1.41 Please Note: The third-party product discussed here is manufactured by a company that is independent of Microsoft. We make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this product's performance or reliability. 2) Right-click the "shexview.zip" file, select "Extract All", the Extraction Wizard will prompt. 3) Click Next, input "C:\ShellExView" (without the quotation marks) in the "Files will be extracted to this directory" textbox. 4) Click Next and click Finnish. 5) Open the "C:\ShellExView" folder and double-click the "shexview.exe" file. It will scan the registry for all the shell extensions. 6) Select all the non-Microsoft extensions in pink by press "Ctrl" in the keyboard. 7) Click the "Disable Selected Items" on the toolbar and click Yes. 8) Restart your computer and check if the issue is resolved. Maybe you could reset the computer to the manuafactuer state by recovering from the recovery disk. Please follow the computer's manual guide to finish this.
