Howdy guys and gals,
I'm becoming a wheebit frustrated at Windows 8.1 Upgrade.
This is the story so far:I bought an ASUS K75V (with 4 USB ports, that's the reason I needed this model chop-chop as I have to spend a lot of my
time in hospitals). Since I live in Belgium, the basic version pre-installed was a Windows 8 [Dutch]. I asked the company to provide me with an
English version, which they did (had to pay for an additional Windows 8 [UK]). No DVDs were provided, nor any Product Keys.
I asked the local shop to upgrade to Windows 8 Pro [UK], which they did (the third license I paid for). The local shop provided me with the
Product Key, but since the upgrade came in the form of a download, I still don't have a DVD.
Last year, I installed the Windows 8.1 Preview [Evaluation Copy] with the Product Key that came with it.
This evaluation copy expired on January 15th 2014 and ... I'm in the hospital again. I was not warned by this evaluation copy that it would stop
working, which I find a bit rude.
So, after installing Windows 8.1 from the Store, I had to reinstall al my desktop programmes (Acrobat, Office, etc. ... you know the story).
Then I suddenly get the message I have to activate my Windows 8.1 by providing a Product Key. The Window 8 Pro Upgrade Key is not accepted. So,
we had someone call Microsoft Customer Support, and were informed I had to ask ASUS for the Windows 8 Product Key that came pre-installed. ASUS
told us these keys are ROM-coded, so they couldn't provide us with any. As I'm in the hospital for several more weeks hooked up to IVs, I had
the local store buy an online key for Windows 8 (again without DVD as I need it now) from their supplier. Didn't work. Said supplier told us we
needed a new Windows 8 Pro Product Key, not the Windows 8 Pro Upgarde Product Key. So, I bought a new Windows 8 Pro (again without DVD, the
local store passed me the keys over the phone). Again nothing.
So far, I have bought FIVE Windows 8 licenses, and still al unable to activate the bloody Upgrade which was FREE.
HELP.
Thierry Rotty, Guy pretty close to a nervous breakdown if it hadn't been for Sweet Morphine.
