Update latest graphic drivers,
Install
klite codeck pack
If problem persists,
1. Click Windows Start
2. Go to Control Panel
3. Click on Uninstall a program
4. Double click on Windows Live Essentials
5. Select Repair all Windows Live programs\
or download a fresh copy and reinstall

IMO K-lite codec pack is for experts knowing exactly what it does and why they need it. Repairing a broken Movie Maker is not the job of a 3rd party codec pack. Your suggestion to repair all windows live programs sounds far better
-- I can't really judge it, because I use this tool under Windows 7, where it never stopped responding.

IMO K-lite codec pack is for experts knowing exactly what it does and why they need it.
klite overwrite the windows codecs and take the precedence and installing this will help if something wrong with windows codecs which prevents movimaker from loading

Is there a solution to this issue? I have seen multiple complaints re application. Just purchased new laptop with Win 8 and now can not produce video's for my clients. I spent a week trying to work out what was going wrong - I thought it was my imported
clips. I had to go back to my client and inform them I could not send the video to them because the clips were corrupted - Not impressed.

If you run the app as administrator it works fine in Windows 8
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Photo Gallery
Right click on Moviemaker.exe and get properties. Under the settings select "Run This Program as an Administrator"
Select "Apply," then OK
It should run without crashing

This doesn't work.... The only thing that works is by rolling it back to Windows 8 - Bad form Microsoft - this is simply not acceptable
