Windows 8 Power_Driver_State_Failure message
I have a new Asus Republic of Gamers laptop and immediately upgraded to Windows 8 . I downloaded a few programs and just ran the sigverif.exe program , which shows all my drivers are signed . However , I've been getting this error message consistently
on boot up . Restarting the laptop takes forever , programs are running very slowly and my wifi keeps turning itself off , even though connections are available . There are no viruses on the computer either . I am not terribly tech savvy and most responses
to similar posts have either been specific to other Windows versions , skipped steps in the troubleshooting process (for example, how do I effect a "minidump" and where is the corresponding log file stored?) , or else have been too technical for me to follow
. Any assistance you can offer will be greatly appreciated . Thanks!

clarifying the problem

A bugcheck (BSOD) is a mechanism to protect your PC from damage.
Bug Check 0x9F: DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff559329%28v=vs.85%29.aspx
The DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE bug check has a value of 0x0000009F. This bug check indicates that the driver is in an inconsistent or invalid power state.
To see the cause I have to take a look at the dumps with the Debugging Tools for Windows.
Please start the Windows Explorer and go to the folder C:\Windows\Minidump. Next, copy the dmp files to your desktop, zip all dmp into 1 zip file and upload the zip file to your public Skydrive [1] folder and post a link here.
if you can't see dmp files, make sure your Windows is configured correctly [2][3] to generate dumps.

FileDescription: Virtual WiFi Miniport Driver
Do you use the Virtual WIFI feature (http://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/show/897-how-to-set-up-virtual-wifi-in-windows-7)?
Also try to update the driver for your Atheros WLAN card:
http://www.atheros.cz/
November 25th, 2012 3:42pm
I do not use the virtual wifi feature yet -- didn't know about it so followed your link and will try in the future =).
I updated the WLAN card as you suggested and rebooted . While the reboot was still terribly slow , I did not get the BSOD error (yayyyy, thank you!) but it was trying to configure my Windows updates and failed 3 times, so it reverted . Haven't
had this message before -- any idea what the problem / solution might be ?
Also, my wifi connectivity still turned itself off and the troubleshooter reconnected it . How do I turn it on manually (and hopefully permanently) ?

Disabling 3rd party tools can fix Windows Update failures:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135/en-us
If you still can't install the updates, run the Windows Explorer and go to the folder "C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\" and copy all files to your document folder, also copy the setupapi.dev.log from the folder C:\Windows\Inf, the "C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log" and
the file "C:\Windows\winsxs\poqexec.log" to your document folder (otherwise you can't upload it), zip all files into 1 ZIP and upload the zip to your SkyDrive.
Now create a new topic in Windows 8 Installation, Setup, and Deployment
, explain the issue and post the required logs.
Can you look into the Eventlog for WIFI errors? Also try this:

Hi,
I have a similar problem with frequent bluescreens with the message Power_Driver_State_Failure. I have an new ASUS Zenbook UX32VD with win 8. My computer keeps crashing when I set it on sleepmode, or rather when I try to start it up from sleepmode. Starting
the computer is also extremely slow. When windows finally opens everything seems to working properly. But when I restart it or put it on sleepmode, it goes to town on me. Please help me or I will soon go to town on IT. Understand you might need a minidump
but I cant find how to upload it.
Thanks,
Tomas

upload them as a zip to your skydrive or dropbox account and post a link here.

When I try to compress the file to a zip, it says "the file dosent exist or you dont have access to it". Tried to change that in in properties but nothing changed. Any suggestions? Now I'm downloading Windows debugging tools to see if that might help me
to find the problem on my own.

So update the Intel AHCI driver (Intel RST) and disable the power saving options.
Also update the Express Cache driver (excsd.sys):

Hi,
I have a similar problem with frequent bluescreens with the message Power_Driver_State_Failure.
Thanks,
Tomas
My exact problem, could someone please help me solve it..?
