Windows 8 WiFi Problems with Toshiba

Ever since I've been upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8, my Toshiba Satellite A665's WiFi has been unstable. Not often or frequently, but randomly there will be points where the wireless connection will flicker, briefly lose the network and reconnect, suddenly go to limited, or just lose the network and I have to do a troubleshoot and repair to fix it.

What exactly is the problem? How can I fix it?

For new installation of Windows 8 install chipset driver first followed by audio, video, network etc drivers before you update from MS. Here is the URL where you can find drivers:

This may sound like a stupid question, but which of these drivers should I be installing?

Also, my Toshiba is a Satellite A665-S6086. Are these drivers compatible with that model?

Hi,

Firstly, please determine the brand of the wireless network adapter in Device Manager.

In the page, you can filter the drivers by selecting Windows 8 and Wi-Fi in Refine Search by drop boxes; and then dowhload and install the correct driver.

I have exactly the same problem with my laptop, I've only had it for a month or two, so it already had windows 8, I did not need to upgrade it, but it always had that issue, and still does, with the wi-fi becoming limited or disconnecting for no reason. 

Have you found any solutions to this?

I purchase Toshiba Satellite C55-A windows8 Laptop  a month back, it has the same problem Wifi problem as said in the other threads,Wifi got frequently disconnected and many time will show limited connectivity and will go off. Can anyone help me out please.Is the issue relate to windows 8 or the laptop hardware. My old IBM laptop is working fine using the same router which I want to use for my new Toshiba laptop

Ditto.  I am having the same problem with my Toshiba C55 with Windows 8.  The wireless simply goes dark.  I know it is the laptop because I have four computers on the network, more than one version of Windows, two of which are Windows 8 (one on a HP) and a five year old Mac.  If that is not enough I have a TW Cable (integrated router/modem) and Windstream Wireless, so I have two networks.  Everything else works.

I purchased a highly customized version of the Toshiba P70 laptop in Oct 2013.  One of the options I included was the Intel Dual Band AC-7260 wi-fi card.  During the two months I have had the computer, I have experienced constant wi fi drops.  It happens at home, at work, at restaurants and just about everywhere I have used it.  In trouble shooting the problem, I went to the Intel web site and discovered that the Intel Dual Band AC-7260 wi-fi adapter is not compatible with Windows 8.  This quote is from the Intel web site:The data reordering issue causes intermittent WiFi connection loss and application hangs on Windows 8* platforms.  I called Intel and they indicated that they have a partial fix, but it only works about half of the time.  Intel strongly recommend that I replace the wi fi card...but Toshiba is refusing to help.  They will only replace the card with another identical card, which will still be incompatible.  I have already wasted 5 hours on the phone trying to resolve this issue with no luck. So, Toshiba sold me a computer with a wireless card that is incompatible with the operating system....and they will not give me my money back or fix the problem.  The computer is useless as a business tool.  Buyer beware.

I bought 2 Toshibas,  A5302 and a C855. Even the keyboard started sticking on both of them after a month. Have the same extremely annoying WIFI issues described here but only on the A5302 with a Realtek RTL8188. It drops connection all the time. So needless to say, I will never buy a Toshiba again.. I mean wifi was perfected 10 years ago, how do they mess that up?? I also despise Windows 8. I think corporations shoot themselves in the foot trying to be busy little bees and destroying what they have already perfected always in favor of something "new". Microsoft should have sat back and let their programmers enjoy their success, instead, Im finally going Linux/Ubuntu.

I did the same exact thing and I sent my PC back to Toshiba, same model too, And they swapped it out with another Intel adapter, I know its the problem. I get constant drops from video games. On other laptops, nothing, works great. I told Toshiba, I will pay for another adaptor I just don't want the Intel one. But because of the Stupid WIDI software they put another Intel one in, and this what Intel says about it. A future Windows 8 fix will address this issue for other Intel wireless adapters. Now obviously this is a Windows problem, PLEASE FIX this. I didn't buy a 1200 computer to show crap from my laptop to my TV and I can get that software from Samsung. I want my laptop to quit dropping. Also I bought another adaptor a USB one and it works half the time, but I think its sad. Windows and Intel would not get their heads together to make a product that works on the basic things. Also Intel says its fixed on certain models that's BS. Also these are not answers, its basic, computer knowledge, I'm a server admin and I know a defective software to save my life. So anybody trying all this stuff till Intel and Microsoft releases a patch for this. There is NO ANSWER.

I know this is a little too late to be of any use, but I recently got a Toshiba Satellite C55D-B5242, and had the same internet problems which I am finding to be a common issue with Windows 8 across all specs of Toshiba Satellite.

I did the following, and have not had any problems with wireless since:

1.  Go to "PC Settings"

2.  Bottom of the left-hand menu, select "Control Panel"

3.  Select "Hardware and Sound"

4.  Top of the list, to the right, under "Devices and Printers", select "Device Manager"

5.  Select "Network Adapters", then select your wireless adapter, mine happens to be "Qualcomm Atheros AR956x"

6.  New dialog box opens, select the tab for "Driver"

7.  Uninstall driver

8.  From the same dialog box, now select "Update driver"

9.  Next dialog box, select "Let me pick from a list of devices on my computer".  This list will take a moment to populate.

10.  For my computer, I selected "Qualcomm Atheros Communications Inc." as the manufacturer, and scrolled way down to "Qualcomm Atheros AR956x" and selected the driver published by Microsoft.  This was a bit tricky, because under manufacturer, they also listed Atheros and Qualcomm Atheros, but my particular network adapter was not listed under these selections.  I finally found it under the manufacturer "Qualcomm Atheros Communications, Inc."

11.  I installed that driver, which is a totally different numbering scheme than the previous driver, which makes me think it is an altogether different driver.  The one I installed dates back to 2013.  I have had no wireless issues since.

It would appear that Windows 8 will install the wrong driver if done automatically.

Whoa!  Before you uninstall your wifi drivers make sure you already have the new driver saved on your computer unless you have a hard-wired internet connection.  If you're connecting over the internet via wifi which most of us are, you will lose your wifi when you uninstall the driver.  I had to do a system restore which took about an hour to restore the old driver so I could get back on the internet.

I just bought a new Satellite laptop and had major wifi problems until I installed Intel's management software (PROSet). Poof! Problems gone, wifi works beautifully, easy transitions between APs and everything.

I was able to do this and along with adjusting the power management settings by unchecking power save mode for the wifi settings there have been no problems since. Thanks for your help.

I have the C55D-B5214 and I was having those problems, If you think you can live without usb 3.0 you can disable it from BIOS and stay great without your wifi problem. Rare but it worked for me.
