Windows 8 wifi browser based login

ok having the problem of the wifi connection not getting to the browser username/password log in screen.

i'm at uni. the free wifi uses wap2-psk with a password of ****** after logging you onto the network it should open a browser window for me to enter a username/password before giving me access.

problem been that the window wont open.

i read some ware that if you set up the connection manually, you untick the "connect automatically" box and it will allow you into a security tab that gives you a few more options like PEAP.

but i have no way of removing a wireless connection so i can recreate it manually.

I am running Microsoft Windows 8 Enterprise 6.2.9200 N/A Build 9200.

i have heard that uninstalling your wireless card removes all wireless profiles and will allow me to do this. but i had that many problems with getting my wireless card to be stable in the first place i would really love it if there was another way.

Thanking you in advance for you time.

You can modify the existing connection properties by:

  1. Opening the networks list (Settings charm -> networks button)
  2. Right clicking (or long-tap) on the connection you're interested in
  3. Select View connection properties
  4. Use the dialog to change EAP settings or the passphrase.

Alternatively, you can delete the network profile through the same menu.  If the network is not presently in-range, then there is no GUI that you can use to delete the network profile, but you can still do it with the elevated command:

netsh wlan delete profile "My Profile"

or to delete all profiles:

netsh wlan delete profile *

Hi Jeffrey,

to add to this topic, whenever I connect to free internet service using the browser I notice that my apps do not work.  when I look at the connection it shows no internet access.  The web browser works fine but the store doesn't because it thinks it is not connect to an internet connection.  I have tried deleting the profile, etc.

hey mate sorry for the late reply, but have been flat out at uni.

as of yet i have not been able to find a solution. removing and remaking the connection did not give me the options i was looking for.

but in saying that i can not right click to get connection proprieties, seems that only works once the connection has finished connecting.

so dare i ask is this a driver problem? i have the asus driver for my K52Jc installed.

I was having this problem at a cafe that had browser-based wifi login.  It wasn't popping up a browser window to login, and when I tried a new tab on Chrome it wasn't taking me to the login page.

But when I opened up Internet Explorer instead it did bring up the login page.  Same thing with an iPad in the same cafe - Chrome didn't work but Safari did.

I guess the lesson is to try the stock browser or at least different browsers.
