Windows Easy Transfer from 7 to 8 not working.

Hi.

I am having trouble transferring settings from a Windows 7 PC to a Windows 8 PC. WET tells me it can only transfer files but not settings to the new PC as it is using a different language than the old PC.

This is incorrect. Both PCs are set to English, United Kingdom and are using identical settings for all other language options.

This flaw in WET is going to cost me a great deal of time if I don't find a fix for it.

Has anyone got a solution to this problem other than to manually enter all my application settings.

I have searched for a solution but so far to no avail.

Thanks in advance for any help offered.

Hi Funster58,

Please try the following methods to solve this issue:

Method 1: Perform a clean boot.

A clean boot helps to verify if any third party application services or startup item is causing this issue. For your information, please review this KB article to put the computer in clean boot:

How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista

Note: Make sure you put the computer back to Normal Startup once you are done with the troubleshooting.

Method 2: Run SFC Scan

System File Checker (SFC) scan can troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on your computer. For your information.

  1. Type cmd in the Start, and right-click the Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator in the below of screen.
  2. Type sfc /scannow, and press Enter.

Method 3: Run check disk

  1. Type cmd in the Start, and right-click the Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator in the below of screen.
  2. Type chkdsk /r /f, and press Enter.

I'm having a similar problem "trouble transferring settings from a Windows 7 PC to a Windows 8 PC" but there is no mention of a language issue:

o transferring from 7 pro to 8.1 pro both 64 bit machines, USA English

o files come over but not IE settings

o using a Microsoft admin account (you know, the new screwy WE WILL KNOW YOUR ID AND EMAIL account)on the 8.1 pc

I logged in as admin on both pc's to transfer my wife's files and settings ("Jane" on both systems, standard account).  Of course I was surprised to see all Jane's files in my 8.1 admin account, so I did the add/delete/admin/standard user tango of changing user accounts to get her stuff in her account (surely there's a better way).

Now "Jane" is gripping that not all her files got transferred, and "what about my IE favorites; I knew you should have bought me an Apple, yadda yadda..."

My solutions now are: 1) take the 8.1 pc back and try to get credit towards a 7 pc for her, 2) buy her an Apple and  learn a new OS--but could that possibly be worse then the learning curve on 8.1?, 3) leave home and take up long-term  international travel with only writing instruments (pen, ink, postcards), 4) apply for an Apple Genius job to get the employee discount (this under an assumed name, etc. as I would have to lie about my age and undergo plastic surgery to fit in and remain incognito so Jane couldn't track me down)

Oh well, there always an iPad...
