Windows Explorer Stopped Working
I upgraded from Vista to Windows 7. It seemed to be without any issue? However, at random times I get an error message in a box "Explorer has stopped working". It then goes on to look for a solution. Then it reboots explorer. Other than this Windows 7 is awesome and I have no issue. Here is a copy and paste from the event log: Log Name: Application Source: Application Error Date: 11/20/2009 7:38:10 PM Event ID: 1000 Task Category: (100) Level: Error Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: Daddy-PC Description: Faulting application name: Explorer.EXE, version: 6.1.7600.16404, time stamp: 0x4a765771 Faulting module name: comctl32.dll, version: 6.10.7600.16385, time stamp: 0x4a5bde67 Exception code: 0xc000041d Fault offset: 0x0000000000130ab5 Faulting process id: 0x6dc Faulting application start time: 0x01ca6a0f3a5f0580 Faulting application path: C:\Windows\Explorer.EXE Faulting module path: C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft.windows.common-controls_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.7600.16385_none_fa645303170382f6\comctl32.dll Report Id: 49881aa4-d64f-11de-9e87-00248c4f9747 Event Xml: <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event"> <System> <Provider Name="Application Error" /> <EventID Qualifiers="0">1000</EventID> <Level>2</Level> <Task>100</Task> <Keywords>0x80000000000000</Keywords> <TimeCreated SystemTime="2009-11-21T03:38:10.000000000Z" /> <EventRecordID>5032</EventRecordID> <Channel>Application</Channel> <Computer>Daddy-PC</Computer> <Security /> </System> <EventData> <Data>Explorer.EXE</Data> <Data>6.1.7600.16404</Data> <Data>4a765771</Data> <Data>comctl32.dll</Data> <Data>6.10.7600.16385</Data> <Data>4a5bde67</Data> <Data>c000041d</Data> <Data>0000000000130ab5</Data> <Data>6dc</Data> <Data>01ca6a0f3a5f0580</Data> <Data>C:\Windows\Explorer.EXE</Data> <Data>C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft.windows.common-controls_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.7600.16385_none_fa645303170382f6\comctl32.dll</Data> <Data>49881aa4-d64f-11de-9e87-00248c4f9747</Data> </EventData> </Event>

I get that too. It happened when I was running Enterprise and also now that I am running Ultimate. It only seems to happen when I have multiple windows open. It just says I have to close, like yours does. I close it myself though. So I would be interested in the answer.

Cool? What do we do now? Should I call the microsoft windows 7 setup team(thingy) and tell you how to fix it? Or do you want to call and tell me? :) I do know even if it does not seem like a big deal now when the same program continues to crash it can/does lead to larger issues.

i don't think this is only the problem of windows 7 but also in vista. so, i could just said that reinstall your system directly.

Hi, This issue can be caused by Shell Extension or third party program. To troubleshoot this issue, please perform the following steps: 1. First, please update device drivers and BIOS to the latest version. 2. Test it in Clean Boot mode. 3. If it does not work, please use the following tool to clear the Shell Extensions: Run ShellExView ================= http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.zip Please Note: The third-party product discussed here is manufactured by a company that is independent of Microsoft. We make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this product's performance or reliability. Hope it helps.Vivian Xing - MSFT
