Windows Firewall
I spoke witha government agency fella and told me that they moved away from teh Windows Firewall in XP becasue it didn't meet Federal standards. Is this still the case for Windows 7? Where would I look to demonstrate to them it's credibility?Jason Yates

I do not know what the Federal Standards he is referring to but, for a starting point, see -
Windows Firewall in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2
Starting with Windows Vista, the native Window firewall now offers -
Windows Firewall with Advanced Security and IPsec
What's New in Windows Firewall with Advanced Security
The latter article shows the 'new' Advanced Security firewall features for Vista and for Windows 7.
Basically, the XP firewall only monitored incoming requests and was not designed to be configurable whereas the Vista/Windows 7 firewall with Advanced Security
is configurable and also monitors outbound traffic.MowGreen
