Windows Media Centre fails to identify any TV channels
I use Windows Media Centre to record some TV programmes, and I have seen recent alerts via an unrelated digibox that some channels have changed. Since I am having an ongoing problem with getting the WMC Guide Listings to download data from some channels, which makes them unrecordable, I decided on 1st November 2013 to set up TV again. Unfortunately this meant I had to manually identify the four tuners in my computer, as Windows Media Centre only identified three if left to its own devices, and then after scanning said it had found no channels at all, and advised checking the physical connection to the antenna. The external antenna is connected to the computer, and from there to a digital TV, which allows input to be selected. When functioning as a TV, it receives digital terrestrial channels with no problem, which was true on 1st November and is still true today; when HDM1 input is selected so that I can use it as a monitor for my computer, Windows Media Centre tells me that it has found zero channels. The settings on TV and Computer to allow the TV to function as a monitor have not changed, so I doubt that this is a problem in the TV, the computer or the aerial, but only in Windows Media Centre which is failing to recognise any channels. I have tried to improve this situation by restarting the computer, checking for further Windows 8.1 updates and installing what I found, and again setting up the TV in Windows Media Centre and rescanning, to no avail. The only thread I can find on such a topic relates to Windows Vista. Do you have any suggestions to recover the TV as well as cure the selective downloading of the Guide? Thank you very much.

Hi,

Have you tried to disable firewall temporarily for test? Eliminating network problem, its hard to find the reason of this problem, you can try to remove Windows Media Center in Windows Feature, and then ,add it again for test.

In addition, because this problem relate with WMC, I would recommend you access the site below to ask the question for further help.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have tried disabling firewall today, but it makes no difference so I have reinstated it. I looked in Windows Feature, and did not find Windows Media Centre there so was unable to try removing it. I am about to repost as you suggest at http://experts.windows.com/f/.

Update: Having now clicked on your link and signed up to that forum, I have found nowhere to post. There must be a straightforward way of posting, but as yet I have not found it. Can you devise a link which will take me directly to where questions may be posted? Thank you.
