Windows Mobile Device Center & Windows Mobile 6.1
Hi, I have Windows 7 64-bit and a Windows 6.1 smart phone. I downloaded and installed Windows Mobile Device Centre but it doesnt work - it just sits there with 'Not Connected'. There doesnt appear to be any button to push to 'retry' and no messages. Does anyone know how I can diagnose this further. e.g. does WMDC have any log files or anything. I know Bluetooth is working as I am able to send files from my PC to my mobile. I had activeSync working when I had Windows XP I had a look at the WMDC help and it mentions having USB connected. Is USB needed or can I sync up just with Bluetooth? (My USB connector on my mobile is knackered). The old activeSync on windows XP required setting up COM ports and things on the PC and mobile. I presume as I wasnt prompted, that this is not required any more? The help also mentions 'To connect to a network or Internet'. Does this mean I can use WiFi to create a connection between the PC and phone? If so is there a procedure for setting this up? Thanks.

Hi, Yes, you can sync and connect with WMDC via Bluetooth. 1. To connect and sync with WMDC via Bluetooth, refer: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc722321(WS.10).aspx#BKMK_4b 2. The Windows Mobile Phone Cannot connect and sync with WMDC via WIFI. http://blogs.msdn.com/b/jasonlan/archive/2006/11/02/windows-mobile-device-center-overview.aspx Meantime, please download the latest version WMDC at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-us/howto/wp6/sync/installing-wmdc.aspx.

Thanks Juke, I dont want to question your advice but are you sure that connection is possible without having a USB connector? In the first link you sent it says: "If you have never attached your device to the computer using a USB cable, do so." Why does it ask to do this? Is it really necessary? I cant do this as my USB connector is broken. And I have just bought a new PC that has never been linked to my mobile. There is no use me persevering with this problem if USB is required. Thanks

Hi, The USB cable is not required, you can connect your device with PC via bluetooth. You need to install the WMDC to have a test as the link says.

Ok Thanks. I can now at least eliminate the broken USB connector as the source of my problem. Does WDMC spit out any .log files that can help me diagnose why it can't connect?
