Windows Security Center does not detect the third-party anti-virus software
I have problem with windows Security Center. Recently I reinstalled widows on my two notebooks. After reinstallation Windows Security Center does not detect any more my third-party anti-virus software on both notebooks, in spite before I never had this problem. The OSs are Windows XP home SP3 on one notebook and Windows XP pro SP3 on another notebook. The anti-virus software is CA anti-virus v.9.0.0.194, which I use already for 2 years. In windows XP home the Security Center always shows that anti-virus is switched-on, even if CA anti-virus is disabled or even completely deleted. In windows XP pro the Security Center does not detect any anti-virus software, in spite CA is installed and functioning. I tried to solve the problem by repairing the repository:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/944175/en-usThis, however, does not give any effect. I have also tried to rename or delete the repository, in order to let a new one be created. In cmd: net stop winmgmt cd /d %windir%\system32\wbem ren repository repository.old net start winmgmtOR net stop winmgmt cd /d %windir%\system32\wbem rd /s repository net start winmgmt This action, however, always fails, as repository cannot be renamed or deleted because it is used by other software.I have tried to perform this in safe modus - the same result.By the way, when I give command “net start winmgmt" - it says that winmgmt is already working, in spite it has to be switched off. Could you pls. suggest how to solve the problem ?Thank you very much in advance !1 person got this answerI do too

Finally I have deleted repository in windows XP home by using Unlocker1.8.9 in save modus. As a result the Security Center has stopped to show that anti-virus is always switched-on and shows now that anti-virus is not installed. So the problem remains.

Try to contact CA support team they could help you to resolve this. I also suggest that open a case with Microsoft Support.

There could be some corrupted system files in your computer that is why the Security Center is not functioning the way we expect it to be. Here's how to do that:1. Click the Start button2. From the Start Menu, Click All programs followed by Accessories3. In the Accessories menu, Right Click on the Command Prompt option4. From the drop down menu that appears, Click on the 'Run as administrator' option5. If you have the User Account Control (UAC) enabled you will be asked for authorization prior to the command prompt opening. You may simply need to press the Continue button if you are the administrator or insert the administrator password etc.6. In the Command Prompt window, type: sfc /scannow and then press Enter7. A message will appear stating that 'the system scan will begin'8. Be patient because the scan may take some time9. If any files require replacing SFC will replace them. You may be asked to insert your Vista DVD for this process to continue10. If everything is okay you should, after the scan, see the following message "Windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations"11. After the scan has completed, Close the command prompt window restart the computer and check.

Hi Jaycee,Thank you very much for your suggestion.I have tried to run SFC scan via command prompt. The scanner indeed requested to insert Windows DVD.My OS is windows XP home, but scanner requested to insert XP professional, which I do not have.A few times I had to skip these requests. Then the scanner requested to insert Win XP home, what I did, but I immediately got a message that I have inserted a wrong DVD. This original DVD, however, is the only one I have. I had to skip this message, but after this one I was getting the same message again and again and every time scanner was not accepting my DVD. So eventually I had just cancelled the scan. :(

Vladimir,If that's the case, I would recommend you to do a Repair Install. Make sure to back up your data first.
