On a new Toshiba laptop with Vista Home Premium, Vista keeps offering me the same 27 updates through the built-in Windows Update client. I always install them and let it go through its routine (which reboots about 5-6 times and shows "configuring updates" for nearly an hour). However, after I log back in and check for updates, it still shows 27 pending updates. I am logged in using an administrator account. It never shows any error message or error codes, it just keeps saying there are updates to install. Any ideas?Thanks!

I'm having the same issue, with 9 updates. I even tried installing 10 optional updates to change it up a bit... but still the same problem. It keeps doing it on shut down, and configures on start up. Any solutions? thx

Hi, This issue can also occur because of the corrupt content of the Software Distribution folder in your system. To resolve this issue we will Rename the Software Distribution folder on your system and then try to access the Windows Update site again. Rename SoftwareDistribution========================Renaming this folder will create a fresh and new copy of it on your system and replace all corrupt files within it. Please try the steps given below: 1. Click Start. 2. Choose Run. 3. In the Run box type "net stop wuauserv" ( Type exactly as written ) and click OK. 4. Then again click on Start Run. 5. In the Run box, type %windir% (exactly has written ) and then click OK. 6. This will open the Windows or Winnt folder or your system. Locate the folder named SoftwareDistribution 7. Right click on this folder and then select Rename. Type the new name as OLDSoftwareDistribution 8. Now close this window. 9. Again click on Start Run and type net start wuauserv and then press OK. 10. Restart your system. Note: Please restart your system after trying the above steps because without restarting the new folder cannot be successfully created. However, if the issue persists, please help to collect the Windows update log: Windows Update.log-------------------1. Click on Start2. Click on Run3. Type "WindowsUpdate.log" (With Double Quotes)4. Click on OK5. Click on File tab on the menu bar, Save As and save the file to the Desktop6. Please send the saved file on the desktop to me at: SCEDATA@microsoft.com and include the following text. Hi, Based on research of the Windows Update log file, let's try the following steps to continue troubleshooting this issue. First, please temporarily disable all third party hardware/software firewalls like Norton Internet Security of McAfee etc. Then let's try step 1 and step 2 to continue: Step 1: Clean up temporary Internet information====================================1. Click the Start Button, type "inetcpl.cpl" (without quotation marks) in the Start Search box, and then press Enter.2. Click "Delete" under "Browsing History".3. Click "Delete all", check the option "Also delete files and settings stored by add-ons.", and then click Yes.4. Click Close. Step 2: Rename Catroot2 folder========================Renaming this folder will create a fresh and new copy of it on your system and replace all corrupt files within it. Please try the steps given below: 1. Click Start. 2. Choose Run. 3. In the Run box type "net stop cryptsvc" ( Type exactly as written ) and click OK. 4. Then again click on Start Run. 5. In the Run box, type "%systemroot%\System32" (exactly has written ) and then click OK. 6. This will open the Windows or Winnt folder or your system. Locate the folder named Catroot2.7. It turns out that this was a bug caused by the Comodo firewall which was fixed with the latest version of Comodo.
