Windows Vista, VPN & IPSec - need help!
HiyaIn Windows XP I use the SafeNet SoftRemote v10.3.5 (Build 6) (branded as WatchGuard Mobile User VPN v7.3) to connect to our company lan.Since Windows Vista is beta, SafeNet has not updated their software, and thus it doesn't work. I have tried other programs: SSH Sentinel, The Green Bow. They don't install properly either. Can anyone help me set up the Windows Vista built-in VPN/IPSec?This is how SafeNet is configured in XP:IPSECType: ESPAuthentication: MD5-HMACEncryption: 3DES-CBCKey expires every 8192 KBRemote network: 10.222.1.0/24Local IP-address: 10.222.1.129 (when on remote network)Local Network; 10.222.5.x During install, an error box says that the "IreBase.dll" did not register properly.I checked the registry, and found that a key referring to IreBase.dll was missing, namely HKLM\Software\MS\Cryptography\Def..something. I copied this from my other OS.I checked and saw that DNE was not installed properly. I then installed the v2.21. It seemed to install fine, and is connected to my NIC. Don't know if it actually works though.I have checked the files on the two different OS, and some where missing on Vista. I copied IpSecDrv.sys and Crypto.sys + Crypto.sig to System32\Drivers.I have set both SafeNet services to log on as an administrator (instead of LocalSystem). I also disabled the built in IpSec and IKE services to avoid conflicts. Now the Policy Manager doesn't complain of a missing driver anymore. But the "SafeNet IKE Service" does not start. It mearly starts and then stops.Any suggestions on how to get SafeNets IKE to run?

I know this was an old post, but I have been seeking out this answer myself of late and have found nothing else to assist with it. The current configuration is: IPSECType: ESPAuthentication: SHA1-HMACEncryption: 3DES-CBCKey expires every 8192 KBRemote network: 10.10.10.0/24Local IP-address: 10.10.10.150 (when on remote network) During install, an error box says that the "IreBase.dll" did not register properly. These EXACT settings on XP Pro connected just fine, no problems. Trying to do this on Vista gives me the above error, including an additional error stating: "Unable to install Driver". When loading the MUVPN software anyway to try and push it through, the software drops an icon in the bottom right task bar that shows: "No Driver Installed". Beyond all of the SUPER DUPER fun I've been having trying to get Vista to release my Com1 port after it decided to put it into a state of being permanently in use even though I've shut down every service related to it, disabled and reset it and so on, and after dealing with several telnet issues in Vista and having LOADS of fun with Vista shutting down my NIC card on battery mode and simultaneously deleting my ability to turn off that function (which I've finally fixed) and not having time to read through the UAC whitepaper so I don't have to leave mine shut off just to run without hordes of interruptions - the VPN is fairly important. I'm not sure what you all have done with the IPSEC policies, why you've left a long-time standard with high level encryption options that is standard in software and hardware worldwide, but it would be nice to see just a few things back in place: simple ipsec services on or off with crypto functionality operational in the system (without using Vista's version of VPN - which didn't work .. I've tried it too), and see telnet restored to use simple hyperterminal services and see better management over com port services. In the meantime, if anyone has an answer to this, I could REALLY use it. I've got a request in with watchguard, but being on the road all day, I haven't been back to the office to get my voice mail, don't feel like spending more time on the cell phone, and just wanted a somewhat simplified explanation via email. If you do have the answer, please please please send it off to dan.kennedy at ordinalassociates dot com! Thanks in advance! Sorry to whine so much - I do like Vista.. just gotta get used to it.. *sigh*

Anyone figure this out yet? I am having the exact same problem.

I tried installing the software in XP SP2 compatibility mode. Everything installs but the service cannot run because the required device is not installed. I am gonna try running the service in XP SP2 compatibility mode. But after calling the OEM for our firewall/VPN, they have a client for sale for $149 per user. pretty steep for a VPN client but business security is more expensive, i guess (wink, wink)..... What a piece of ***!

Hello all, Just got luck to solve this issue - to install SafeNet SoftRemote MUVPN Client into a Vista system!!! Steps want to share with you guys: [1] Update Vista to latest SP1 (Apr 2008) [2] Goto DNE (deterministic nectworks enhencer) website, download winfix.exe & updatedne.exe [3] Uninstall unworking MUVPN applciation in Vista [4] Run winfix.exe then updatedne.exe [5] Re-install Muvpn It works!!! It takes me days to figure it out...before, it works perfectly in my old XP SP2 system. After install on this new Vista system, it keeps telling me " No drive installed" or "Drive not installed"... Goood luck to you also! James
