Windows XP - Full Range of Colours Not Displayed
Hello, I would be extremely grateful for any advice you could give me please. I have had this problem with my laptop screen for 3 months and am still no closer to solving it.Problem: The colours on all windows borders, icons and the background desktop have been changed. It looks like the usual full range of colours are not being displayed. (The background images are psychodelic in appearance.)The color problem also affects Internet Explorer 8.All office products and ie8 have a normal white background and the text colours are correct. The same problem applies to full colour photographs in windows office picture manager. The full range of colours are not being displayed. Also, the images and windows borders appear to shimmer slightly? The problem appeared unexpectedly.I have a sony laptop running windows XP media centre which has an NVIDIA Geforce Go 7600 chip. 2GB RAMThe system has run well for 3 years. I have used 3D Max and other image processing packages without any problem.I have tried the following without success.1. Reinstalling the Nvidia drivers from the Sony website2. Changing variables in the control panel / display window3. Changing variables in the Nvidia control panel.4. Also, I have written test programs in C# which have displayed the correct colours in a window?Possible causes:1. I installed an emulator program which allows users to run old programs for MZ80k, ZX Spectrum, etc. ?2. A number of windows and sony updates were installed prior to the problem occuring. However, the problem did not appear immediately. A few day later?3. Problem with the LCD display or graphics card?I would be extremely grateful for any advice you could give me please. 1 person needs an answerI do too

Do system restore. If the problem still occurs then the nVidia graphics card might be compromised.

Hi, thanks for your help. Before I do the system restore, I just wanted to check.Would this remove the applications and license files I have installed on the C: drive?(I have not created any restore points.) Is there a soft restore option that keeps the applications etc? Thanks again.
