Windows XP backup utility not recognizing Iomega external drive as a backup destination
Original title: My windows Live One Care has ended. XP backup utility won't recognize my ext hd as a backup destinationMy windows Live One Care subscription recently ended. I used it to back up to an Iomega prestige ext hd. Now I have tried to use the xp backup utility. It does not show my ext hd (drive I) as a destination for backup. I am using sp 3. I don't see any way to add it as a destination. the ext drive does show on my computer. Any ideas? Thank you

Hi roadguy2005, · Are you using Windows XP Home Edition or Professional?· Are you using the Wizard mode or Advanced Mode to backup?· Is your external drive already partitioned and formatted?· Do you have to run some Initialization software from a CD that came with the unit to get it ready to use?The reason to ask you this question is due to the fact that most of the Iomega Hard Drives include backup software to enhance your use of the drive. Anyways, I would suggest you to try the steps mentioned below. Step 1: Change the drive letter assignment and then check if the backup recognizes your driveVisit the link below to know how to change the drive letter assignment in Windows XP How to change drive letter assignments in Windows XPhttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/307844 Step 2:How to use the Backup utility to back up files and folders in Windows XP Home Editionhttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/308422Note: The steps are applicable to Windows XP home edition only Hope this information is helpful.Mouneshwar R – Microsoft Support-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Visit our Microsoft Answers Feedback Forum and let us know what you think
