Hi gar-bear,· Do you have any third party Antivirus and Firewall installed on the computer?· Do you remember making any changes to the computer after which the issue started?I would suggest you to place the computer in a clean boot state and troubleshoot the issue. You can start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "clean boot." A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts. How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" stateAlso, see the section on how return your computer to a Normal startup mode by following the steps under “Steps to configure Windows to use a Normal startup state”, after performing the clean boot troubleshooting.Hope this helps. Look forward to hearing back from you. Thanks and Regards,Santosh Y – Microsoft SupportVisit our Microsoft Answers Feedback Forum and let us know what you think.
