Windows is trying to configure 'Common.msi' then error 1706 appears
Yesterday a Symantec case manager had to uninstall my 2008 version of Norton Anti-Virus and install Norton Internet Security 2011. It proved difficult to uninstall AV, but eventually everything seemed OK.Now every time I switch on my PC a windows box appears that says 'Please wait while Windows configures ccCommon' (I am the administrator cc) I don't know what to enter in the box marked product source so I just click on OK. It then comes up with 'The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-Rom or other removable disc that is not available' If I click OK it says Error 1706 No valid source CD can be found for ccCommon'I have searched online and error 1706 seems to be associated with Windows Office so I'm not sure why that suddenly has a problem. It also suggests that 1706 is to do with .NetWindows Installer still can't configure my common files and I don't know which fix to choose. Is there a free fix anywhere that will work?I am running Windows XP Pro with SP3. Microsoft want £46 to fix this by phone so that isn't an option. Whether Symantec can fix it, since the uninstall/install seems to have caused it is unknown. Please can someone help me?
