Windows services failed, but which?
Hi, i'm running windows 7 64bit RC, just came home from college to find a large pop up box saying something along the lines of "Some windows services failed to start which may result in some users not being able to log on (i don't have users btw) if you are the admin click here for more details" So i clicked the box nothing popped up. Also i tried a simple restart in hope it would work, but instead it took about 2-3minutes(its usual boot time is under a minute)toboot and didn't give me the same pop up message, but still will not connect. It now will not connect to the internet, and it's not a router problem because i'm currently on my dads laptop which is connected to the same router. My pc is connected by wire so it won't be anything to do with wireless services/hardware.It's still being picked up by this laptop as sharing but will not connect to any of its files. And the sharing services have been started.Typically windows could not identify the problem, but just to clarify, the pc has not been touched since i used it last night and it was working fine then, so i'm not sure whats happened. It is wired to the router and properly. All i can guess is that its a service problem as the first error message i had mentioned services, but i do not know any services related to connection so i cannot manually check they are running.

Update. After another two reboots it seems to be running ok. The boot uptime was much faster and whatever caused the problem has dissapeared. Update.Ok seems like it's still screwing up. The boot speed is ok atm, but it just disconnected again and a reboot didn't fix it.Has anyone got any idea why a wired PC would be disconnecting?! I've never heard or seen this problem before.______________________________________________________________________________________________________Guessing it's a hardware issue, i cannot connect to my router even though its wired, total bummer seems i've had this pc only 7 months.

I suspect you need an updated driver for the NIC adapter, have a look at the manufacturers website, or Windows update. Or, at least, reinstall the existing driver.

Thanks, i'l have ago at reinstalling the existing driver, then check the manufacturers website, as for windows update, thats a no go without internet isn't it :s ? Wonderful, my driver CD didn't work with win7. I'm on said pc atm, for some reason the internet is currently working on here, which just adds to the confusion for me. If it was a hardware problem i doubt it would come back on. I'm starting to think it may be related to overheating, i have only got 2 fans with 3 harddrives and a big GFX etc.
