Hi, Please try to rename Windows Update temporary folder to test the problem. 1. Close all the open windows.2. Click the "Start" Button, click "All programs", and click "Accessories".3. Right-click "Command Prompt", and click "Run as administrator".4. In "Administrator: Command Prompt" window, type in "net stop WuAuServ" (without the quotes) and press Enter. 5. Click the "Start" Button, in the "Start Search" box, type in "%windir%" (without the quotes) and press Enter.6. In the opened folder, look for the folder named "SoftwareDistribution".7. Right-click on the folder, select "Rename" and type "SDold" (without the quotes) to rename this folder.8. Still in "Administrator: Command Prompt" window, type the command "net start WuAuServ" (without the quotes) in the opened window to restart the Windows Updates service. After completing the above steps, please restart the computer and try to run Windows Update again. Hope it helps.

Go look and see if Windows Updates has re-created a new SoftwareDistribution folder in the Windows directory. If notyou can rename the SDold back to SoftwareDistribution. You may have to go into the Services and temporarily stop Windows Updates if you run into problems changing it. Right-click on the Windows Update Service and just press Stop.Check to see if there is a folder within the SoftwareDistribution directory called Downloads. If there is, open up that folder and delete any files or folders that you find in there. Next check to see if there is a EventCache (or simularly named) folder and delete what you can in that folder. If there is a file in that directory that you are unable to delete it Windows may tell you which program is using it. If that 's the case go into the Services and stop that program (just like you stopped Windows Updates). Next, look for a DataStore folder in the SoftwareDistribution directory. There is a file called DataStore.edb ( or something simular). If you cannot delete it determine which program is using it and go to the Services again and stop the program. There is Log folder within the DataStore folder. Open that up and delete everything possible. Finally, in the AuthCabs folder, within the Software Distribution folder, delete what you can in there, stopping any programs that might be using it.Basically, the 4 folders (plus 1 subfolder)within the SoftwareDistribution directory can be emptied out: AuthCabs, DataStore (plus Logs), Downloads, and EventCache are all you should touch. After you get all that done a reboot should restart all of the programs (in Services) that you stopped and the SoftwareDistribution dirctory should be back in order as the stopped programs do their things.Hope this helps.GA P35 DQ6 Mb, Intel Wolfdale 8600 3.33Ghz C2D CPU., 4x2Gb Mushkin DDR2 1066 PC2 8500 Ascents Memory Mods., PNY-nVidia GE Force 8800 GTS (640MB), 4-Western Digital Caviar SATA(2) HDD's (internal), 1 EIDE-USB External; Hauppauge PVR 1600 TV tuner, Dual Monitor: (1) Standard up top, (1) WideScreen below; Altec Lansign Speakers...
