Windows updates failing unless I start BITS service manually
I have an issue with Windows 7 x86 with Windows Updates failing with error code 80246008. All I need to do to resolve the issue is start the background intelligent transfer service and the windows updates run and install fine. The service is currently set
to manual, I have tried setting it to automatic but after a few hours it changes back to manual. How can I resolve this so I don't have to continually start the service manually, it never has a problem starting manually. The computer has all the latest Windows
updates and is running SP1.

Open Services MMC and set the startup type of BITS to "Automatic (Delayed Start).

Already tried that and it changes itself back to Manual and stopped. Thanks for the suggestion though. Also tried "Restart the Service" under the recovery tab bits service for all subsequent failures.

In that case, suspect malware.
Please download and install MalwareBytes Anti-malware
www.malwarebytes.org and update it, and run a full scan (DO NOT enable the Real-Time protection option!) in your main account, and Quick scans
in any other user accounts.
Delete everything it finds

I ran a full scan with Malwarebytes and it didn't find one infection. I am running Trend Micro Worry Free Business Security Advanced so didn't think it was an infection but worth a try. It only started happening a couple of weeks ago. Does anyone have
any other suggestions?

When does the "Startup Type" gets reset, exactly? After a reboot, or while logged on... If the latter you can most probably trace it using Process Monitor.

You can fix BITS by following this article below, i know it says Vista but the folder structure is identical for Windows 7 and it works with Windows 7 as well
