Wired and Wireless Connections
Hello,I was using Windows 7 RC1 for a while at work. At work we have 2 connections, 1 for business use without internet access and 1 wireless network with internet access. This was also visable in the "Network and Sharing center".In the RC1 versionI was using a "work" virtual machine that automatically used the wired connection. When I would start internet explorer it would automatically pick up the wireless connection, as this onehas the internet access.. (makes sence)Today I've done a clean install to the final Windows 7 Enterprise product. Now the 2 connections are still recognized as "Internet access" and "No internet access" but as long as the cable for the "No internet access" network is plugged in, Internet Explorer won't pick up the wireless (Internet) connection!Am I doing something wrong, or did Microsoft cut out this nice feature?Kind Regards,Herman Bonnie

Hi, Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet Forum. Where do you start Internet Explorer, from the virtual machine or from the host machine? Does the host machine connect to the wireless network normally? Can other network applications access Internet? Try to manually connect the wireless network by clicking the network icon==>clicking the wireless network==>clicking Connect. Best Regards. Dale Qiao

Hi Dale,The host connects to the internet. I have now created a VM and bridged the virtual network card to the wireless connection and it does connect. Also when I disconnect the LAN cable internet explorer also picks up the wireless connection. Is there any way I can set the wireless connection to be the prefered connection to the internet? Thanks,Herman

Look at changing the automatic metric for both interfaces. The interface with the lower metric will be the preferred.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299540Open the Network and Sharing Center then click on Change adapter settings at the left. Right click on the adapter you want to change and highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) then click on Properties. Click on Advanced and change the metric at the bottom of the window. Change the other adapter accordingly.MS-MVP Windows Desktop Experience, "When all else fails, read the instructions"
