Wireless Adapter & Utility for WEP
Hello all,
The situation is that I need the ability to easily connect to a
WEP network using a Windows 7 32-bit system. I need to have my superior's Windows 7 laptop system to be able to connect to WEP how you would a WPA network. The laptop will be traveling and we will never have access to change
the type of network.
Through browsing Technet, and many other sites, I have found time and time again useless posts of "You have to upgrade!" or "It is not secure!" and am very frustrated reading the endless trolls about it. I understand that WEP is not secure, but the fact
remains that my boss's boss will still have to use it.
Essentially, I feel that my simplest solution would be to find a wireless card to connect to the laptop that comes with a utility to replace Microsoft's Wireless Manager. I have done searches through Linksys, Cisco, and Netgear, but have not been able to
determine if they would come with the utility that I require. On the other hand, I could be terribly wrong and said utility would simply utilize Microsoft's, but with a different GUI.
If any of you have any knowledge of that type of utility, a device that comes with that type of utility, or
useful posts of workarounds, I would greatly appreciate. Please keep in mind that the user of this will
not have any extensive knowledge of how to operate a computer and or background measures.
Great thanks in advance.

I'm not sure what you mean by "connect to WEP how you would a WPA network". My Windows 7 laptop connects to either just by asking me for the passphrase (in WEP's case it would be the WEP key), it doesn't really differentiate between the two except
internally and I use Microsoft's wireless manager. For unsecured networks it just gives me a warning that the network is unsecured and asks me if I want to connect anyway.
