Wireless home network, Vista & W7
Hello everyone. I am writing in regards to setting up a wireless home network, in which internet and file sharing can occur. Let me give you a description of how it is all organised. My main PC, which is connected directly to the wireless router (belkin G+) is running windows vista ultimate. I have a notebook PC, which is running windows 7 RC, as well as another PC which is also running windows 7 RC. Before upgrading them both to windows 7, they too ran windows vista ultimate. Previously, I had allowed file sharing between the 3 machines, by right clicking on the particular folder, going onto sharing options, and changing the settings there. Now, all the machines are part of the same workgroup, and to test, I have shared my documents on my windows vista PC and tried to access them on my windows 7 but it comes up with an error saying I do not have enough permission etc etc. The internet is shared through the same router, and though all 3 of my machines are fully functional in terms of internet, I am unable to share files. I would appreciate any help on this matter. Thank you.

That should work without any problems. It does for me. Are all machines in the same workgroup? Have you enabled network discovery and file sharing? You may get a popup message to enter credentials. If you enter these and select the remember option, it should then work without a prompt.Bill

Hi, Thank you for posting. Please also check both Sharing and Security settings on all of the share folders properties, and make sure that you have assigned the "Full-Control permissions to Everyone. Hope this helps. Thanks.Nicholas Li - MSFT

copied from a post here.........In the Advanced sharing settings page of Network and sharing center, you need to have it set as Work/Home profile. Try -Enable network discovery-Turn on file and print sharing-Turn off password protected sharing-Use user accounts and passwords to connect to other computers

(I can SEE her machine, and I can SEE her folders, but can't access them.) I had no trouble sharing files between this desktop computer and her Vsta machine when using XP Pro, but Windows 7 seems to be unusually hard to share files over. (On the other hand, my wife's Visita computer CAN see and read my file on the Windows 7 machine.)Before anyone asks...YES I have attempted to enable Network Discvery, BUT IT WON'T SYAY CLICKED! (In other words, It won't stay enabled!)HELP! Sharing is essentail to our cooperative work, but WE CAN'T SHARE...or, rather, we can only share in one direction. Bummer!

I had to modify Vista's Sharing and Security settings to include Everyone and Network with Full Permissions. Solved the problem. (Thinking about upgading my wife's vists Home Premium notebook o Windows 7...so that I cn use homegroup.)
