Won't boot up
Whenever I try to boot my computer, my machine will progress along to just the desktop, then immediately go to the choose-a-user screeen. Since I am the only user, only my name shows up. So I click on my name, then it goes to my desktop for half a second, then goes right back to the choose-a-user screen. This will go on as long as I do. I also tried in Safe Mode and the only difference was that the Admin account showed up along with mine. I tried both accounts, and the same thing happened. All I want to do is go back to a week-old restore point hoping that will solve the issue. Any thoughts or similar experiences out there?1 person needs an answerI do too

It is unlikely that System Restore will solve the issue. This behavior is most often seen in computers which have been infected and the winlogon file damaged or misdirected to a malware file. These computers can sometimes be fixed by working outside the operating system with specialized rescue discs. In most cases the efficient thing to do - especially if the computer is still infected - is to back up the data and first try a repair install of Windows. If the repair install doesn't work (and if the computer is still infected it won't), then do a clean install/factory restore of Windows. You can retrieve data that didn't make it into your regular backups even if you can't get into Windows. If you need help in doing that, let me know. http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm - Repair Install How-To http://michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html - Clean Install How-To http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Reinstalling_Windows - What you will need on-hand MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!
