XP/Vista Network
I have a wireless network consisting of a PC running XP SP2 and a Laptop running Vista. They are networked via a wireless system router which is a Siemes Speedstream. I have two printers which are connected to the PC. When I try to access either of these printers from the Laptop it takes in the order of twenty plus minutes before the printing commences. This is excessive to me. Does anyone have any ideas on the reason for the long delay and any suggestions on how I can reduce it? Regards Redex

Hi, I suggest checking the following: 1. Is the latest driver installed on the Windows Vista machine? 2. How about if you copy files from Windows Vista to Windows XP? Will it slow? 3. Please locally connect a printer to the Windows Vista machine, and check if the issue persists. Additionally, please disable Auto-Tuning on the Windows Vista and check if it helps: Click Start, and type cmd in the Start Search box. Right-click the cmd icon, and select Run as Administrator. In the Command Prompt, type the following command:netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled Note: Please re-enable Auto Tuning by typing the following command if the above steps cannot fix the issue:netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal

Hi Joson 1. It appears that the latest printer driver was not installed in the Vista laptop. It is now. 2. Transfer of files from the Vista laptop to XP pc is virtually instantaneous as I expected that it should be. Likewise from the PC to the Vista laptop 3. I connected the printer directly to the Vista laptop ( This is when I found that the printer driver was not installed in the laptop) and the print time was normal i.e there was no delay. 4. With the auto tuning disabled the time to print from the Vista laptop via the network was about 6 minutes. 5. With the auto tuning normal the time to print from the Vista laptop via the network was about 3 minutes. 6. There has been a significant reduction in the time taken to print from the laptop via the network. This appears to be the result of now having the correct driverfor the printer in the laptop. 7. After several printing operations it appears that the time form initiating a print from the Vista laptop to the actual printing on paper is approximately six minutes. 8.Although this is an improvement I would expect it to be much. Maybe a duration approaching that taken to print from the XP pc to the printer. Regards
